If you wonder how much more thinner your phone, tablet, and computer can be: a little bit thinner.
Or, rather, and that's what I prefer, same thickness, and use the new space for improved battery!

Anyway,
https://arstechnica.com/information...ptane-ssd-375gb-that-you-can-also-use-as-ram/

Intel has announced an SSD that can be used as RAM as well. That's so exciting. Maybe this version isn't quite up there yet, and there are some hurdles in the real world for consumers that we probably have to overcome.

But I'd like to think that in a few years or even sooner we will have a single chip that is optimized for post-boot and pre-caching of apps, and a partition for storing your personal data, all properly encrypted and working together fine with a section of the disk as dynamic ram we can use as performance requires it.

So good. Haha, gee, the title of the story is kinda sensational of course (clickbait) but the idea of having a phone with say 2 TB ram on it eventually, which we share with storing data and it all works just fine. Without having to compromise in space and if the system shuts down the 'ram' data is basically written to down and restores as we go. There are so many start and end points in the system that causes lag and they could potentially be near instant restore now.

I digress, I am excited about this. This can help lower energy use, improve performance, and give space for a bit more battery. Allowing together to add another x minutes of yay to using your devices.

Is this the same concept as an M2 drive in a PC?

M2 drive is completely solid state but plugs directly into the motherboard, and so you don't get the SATA traffic jam situation

This would be great for gaming laptops in the future, with the addition of traditional RAM sticks (latest of course!) It'd be quite the beastly machine. For phones and tablets, even more so. :)

Can definitely see phone/tablet games become far more advanced in graphics and ability if something like this became the norm for phones and tablets. :)
