Aside from water, tea is the most drunk beverage in the world today. Tea has been around for centuries but originated for medicinal purposes in Southeast Asia. There are many different kinds of tea and some are tied to these origins. Green tea is one such kind. What sets it apart from the more commonly drank black teas in Europe?

Green tea is 99.9% water, which makes it very hydrating, and it contains only one calorie for every one hundred milliliters. Higher in flavonoids and catechins than many other health beverages, green tea is practically bursting with antioxidants and other beneficial nutrients. Like one might expect from a tea, caffeine is present too, albeit less than in coffee. Useful in its own way, caffeine can provide a boost to concentration.

Some correlation exists between regular green tea consumption and lower risks of various cancers, esophageal, and lung cancer, for example. Correlation is not causation, but for a simple tea, any potential benefit makes it stand out. Multiple studies have discovered that regular green tea consumption can lower blood pressure as well. A few studies have also shown that the catechins in green tea can improve dental health!

If you're looking for an alternative hot beverage with a long, rich history and added health benefits like antioxidants, or even just seeking a change from the more common and monotonous teas you might drink regularly in the west, green tea fits the bill. For tea lovers and novices alike, green tea is certainly worth trying out.

I know, I am crazy, I just had to look some of this up and learn a bit more about tea. I've always enjoyed tea and I have always tried to make my own blends to get the right taste. But green tea is my go to

Floris, it sounds like you own stock in some green tea company, is that true? Only joking. Well, it also sounds as though with the medicinal advantages tied to the drinking of green tea, I can toss all of my meds. I tried green tea on several occasions and found the taste of it not to be pleasant. However, I may try it again because of your post. Who knows, with adding tons of sugar, maybe the taste can become bearable. Whoops! That would defeat the purpose for its consumption, wouldn't it. Oh well, I'll give it another try anyway and hope for the best. It sure sounds healthy.

I used to drink a lot of green tea when I was younger I might get myself back into it and worry about my body more now.

I worry too much about my body, I just pretend I don't worry.
I hate being an adult, too many consequences and responsibilities.

I saw an advert for Cherry Bakewell flavoured green tea, I'm tempted to try that!

Picked out a few premium green teas from a local store, and there was one that was really just wonderful. I can't wait to get more of it.

I am out of my teas, I had a tea rush as I call it and had a couple of teas more per day than I usually do. This was fun, I AM FINE,.. it is relaxing and especially with beautiful weather to look into on the balcony early mornings. Unfortun. I am out of tea, and I am out of sunlight in the morning. There's too much noise now to sit outside by the time there's some sunlight.
