Any sources for the release date estimate? 2009 seems kind of soon.

There's a HUGE chance for a release in '09 thanks to the Hero Engine. Alpha is pretty much near completion from what I gather from excitement, and Beta and release will soon follow suite.

Tis true. The Hero Engine definatly seems to speed everything.

Heres my reasoning for a possible 09 reason.

-First they are using an already made engine-Automatically a year or 2 off of development time.

-They are using Hero Engine which also speeds up the process.

-Been in development for about 4 years.

-Judging by Screenshots and Videos they seem pretty far along by my book.

Man, why can't Bioware throw us a bone with the release date? Can they at least give us a progress report?

I beg to differ. The screenshots are showing us nothing.

In one, a Sith is battleing a Jedi. Both of their calves are horribly skinny, and not to mention their thighs were too pointed and pixelated. Also, notice in the vid-doc they only showed combat.

It's possible they only just implemented combat, and have yet to put in cities, environment (wild life, shrubbery, vegetation), perhaps travel, levels, bosses, NPC's, zones, instances (though I guess the latter two could be categorized with environment), loot, and I could go on. (That's a lie).

It's possible SWtOR would be released within the year (a week or two before '09 as of posting this), though if that were to happen I believe it would be buggy and glitchy, such as SWG rather than a tremendously finished and clean WoW at release. I'm going to hate myself for this, but I sincerely hope it launches beginning/mid of '10.

Ask for an early release, you'll get a glitchy SWtOR.

Ask for a later release, you'll get a (hopefully) clean, smooth SWtOR.

You get what you ask for.

There is so much they have not talked about that Im guessing a 2010 release. I hope I am wrong but it took several years from the launch of the SWG site to the game going live, and then another several months to incude everything they promised like mounts... I would rather wait and have a good complete first release than a buggy one, but if its like every MMO out there there are always bugs and glitches.

I hope it comes out in 2010 just because I want a game that will give me "years" :ugeek: of star wars goodness, instead of a few months of lag

Considering how much games are delayed now a days, I wouldn't argue with 2010. I guess I'll leave it up to Bioware to let us know.

The game is a 2010 release, I think.

Just read what Bioware has said.

They originally wanted on '09 release, they've said it many times. But recently they've been cited as stating that due to Drago Age's release on PC's this Spring/Summer then again in Fall for consoles, they are going to be busy promoting that game.

They can't afford to permit Dragon Age to be shadowed by something as massive as TOR.

It's a 2010 lock I feel, especially since there has been little coverage, little hype, nor any mention of a Beta.

A game that is going to challenge WOW will have atleast a full year or two's worth of anticipation via media outlets.

I'm predicting Spring or Fall 2010.

And then there are the elusive EA reports to their investors stating a late '10/'11 release window.

    I'm hoping 2010 though, haha...

As far as the release date, I'm not sure what to think, because I believe that after WAR had its incredibly smooth launch, Bioware will likely look into how that happened and do everything it can to ensure a launch that is as good, or even better than Warhammer.

I don't have a clue how WAR launched so smoothlydid it so i cant say for sure, but I will say I believe with the current quality level of the MMORPG genre, we can expect it to be a clean launch with relatively few major bugs.

If accomplishing this means waiting till 2010, then I'm all for it, I will just continue to whet my appetite with the updated content and the webcomic.

PS: Also, I believe that Bioware likely planned the webcomics out so that the last one will be posted just before launch (maybe :| ) Has anything been said about how many comics there are supposed to be?

No such luck. It seems that the series will be divided into an unknown amount of acts and it seems there will be 6 updates per act. That translates into 3 months per each act and we can only guess on how long they will make the comic (at the very least, I would say 3 acts)

Considering nothing has been hinted at as far as the release date, I am still expecting a 2010 release

My guess is that a full (closed) beta will be released by fall/winter of 2009. This means winter/spring 2010 release. My guess is around that is accurate, but with recent updates i think a lot more is done than we think so maybe before then who knows.
