"Doomsday Clock" Moves A Minute Back

The Doomsday Clock - a barometer of nuclear danger for the past 63 years - has been moved one minute further away from the "midnight hour".

The concept timepiece, devised by the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists (BAS) now stands at six minutes to the hour.

Well hell, I feel better. How about you?

So, BAS = Bullshit As Science....right?

I'd say we've got more of a chance of idiotic governments and corporations ripping everything apart as opposed to nuclear warfare.

When I first heard of this thing it was in Watchmen, I assumed it was just a rather ridiculous parody...

During the peak of the cold war, which to the US is the Cuban Missile Crisis; I was in elementary school. The Doomsday Clock was fairly new then but widely accepted as the tell all for the current situation. It was jumping all over the place during the standoff with the USSR.

We had nuke drills at school....Duck and Cover...

I think the Doomsday Clock is about as useful as the color code alerts for terrorist threat levels in the US.

I think when we are at red alert we are supposed to run up and down the street screaming and waving our arms.

Shit like this is so all the intellectuals can maintain their false air of superiority. They give the sheep a false feeling of security that there are those that can warn them of impending doom.

    Be prepared and remain hopeful.

If you find yourself hopeful that you had prepared...

    ...then you are fucked.

I'm confused... the clock started at 7 minutes to midnight just after the US nuked Japan... how the hell is nuclear danger higher now than when the Japanese were still smouldering from the last bomb?

/edit: wait... apparently it was moved to 5 minutes to midnight in '07 because of... climate change? What does... I... wat.

The fuck is a doomsday clock...

The Doomsday Clock is a symbolic clock face, maintained since 1947 by the board of directors of the people Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists at the University of Chicago. The closer the clock is to midnight, the closer the world is estimated to be to global disaster.

What the hell this is fucking gay.

    NO U.

Thankfully, I live in Australia. No one cares about Australia enough to consider nuking it, and if they did they'd probably aim for Canberra (lol, capital city...) and Sydney.

All the fallout would do is enhance our natural defences by making our already deadly critters even bigger and deadlier :D

It was a stupid idea that through some freakish turn of events has been sewn into science's mindset. I think that it has been used for so long that no one will dare question it's validity.
