    Episode IV - Hope Returns

The Rebellion has stolen the plans to the Empire's ultimate weapon the Death Star. Princess Leia knowing she will be caputred by Darth Vader gives the plans to her droid R2-D2 and blasts him and C-3PO to Tattoine in order to look for Obi-wan Kenobi.

What she doesn't know however is that Obi-wan disappeared two years after his self imposed exile without a trace. And events are now set in motion that will take Star Wars IV: A New Hope in a completely different direction. A secret rescuer is sent to help the Princess elude Darth Vader. The Princess assembles a rag tag group of strangers to locate Obi-wan and recover her droids. Vader learns of his son from a new source. And the secret of Obi-wan's disappearance changes events for the entire trilogy.

ooc: I guess then I'll get us started

    Darth Vader

In my meditation chamber I didn't need the helmet. I didn't need the mechanical lungs to breath for me. hyper-oxygenated air still burnt my lungs but not like everywhere else. I reached out to the ship itself. We were near, that much I did know. The Rebels, those fools that robbed from the Galaxy the peace I'd brought to it twenty years ago.

Then again I wasn't entirely sure my master didn't want the rebellion to end.

Betrayal is the way of the Sith. And he betrayed you from the day you met

I took in a sharp breath and my lungs burned. Yes, Palpatine was every bit as evil as Obi-wan had once said. It was because of him that I had lost everything. But evil as he was my master had shown me true power. And shown me how to fulfill my destiny.

Now I had a new destiny to fulfil. One that didn't include him. And it was soon to begin. His powers waned each day while mine only grew. Soon I would be strong enough to overthrow him and bring true order to the galaxy. Then everyone would know I had been right.

The computers beeped an incoming transmission. It was that fool Admiral Ozzle
I blinked my eyes and the machines began the process of refitting my helmet. Once it was firmly in place I activated the holo-emitter

My Lord, he said. We've intercepted the rebel blockade runner and have locked it in our tractor beam. It will be docked with us shortly

"Good Admiral," I said. "Send in 12 squads to pacify the ship, kill anyone that gives you resistance but I want Bail Organa's daughter and Captain Antilles alive."

It will be done my Lord, Ozzle bowed and the screen flickered off.

    It was almost time.

    C-3PO

I nearly tripped three times as the ship shuttered from blasts. Oh dear, oh dear! The Empire was right on our trail, and they truly had us now. I doubted any of us would be able to escape this time. The Princess has gotten herself into a terrible predicament. Just terrible!

Rebellion soldiers ran past me and my counterpart, R2-D2, carrying blasters. Obviously trying to defend the ship from the Stormtroopers. However I did not know what they thought they would accomplish.

I looked to R2, and said "Oh R2, I think this is the end for us! There will be no escape for the Princess this time!"

R2 began to beep in response, disagreeing with me. He had more hope than I did, however he always did. But this time my mind was firmly set: this was the end! Even he may not be able to escape, but I knew I wouldn't. I was always the one who ended up in the dire conditions, and that was probably the case before the memory wipes I believe I have had as well.

Suddenly I heard a large booming noise, and immediately stopped and looked up as the ship began to move at a slower pace. "Oh no..." I said in a lower tone

    Fett:

    These helmets are ridiculous.

I had been thinking that on and off for the last three days now, since I had slipped onto the ship during a resupply before they continued the hunt for the Tantive IV.

It hadn't been all that hard. They had brought on a full detatchment of stormtroopers. They knew they were storming the ship when they caught up with it and they wanted enough men to overwhelm them. Once I got on, it had been a bit harder to disaper. Stormtrooper units were close knit affairs. They could tell who eachother was just by stance and the way they walked. I had to slip into the ship and wait out four days without getting caught. But on a Star Destroyer, there were plenty of places to hide as long as you didn't mind discomfort.

Once they alarm went out for all hands to prepare for a boarding action, I had made sure my armor was on straight and slipped into the back of the squad waiting to search the ship. Any of them asked, I would just say I was part of the ships permanent staff of troopers.

Now I just had to make sure I didn't adjust the damn helmet and give myself away.

No wonder so many of my "brothers" died in "friendly fire" accidents.

    Captain Piett:

Strapping a holster for a blaster pistol to my belt, I breathed out slowly, attempting to settle my nerves before I took charge of the search parties that would examine the Tantive IV once it had been secured. I was not sure why Admiral Ozzel had detailed me to lead the search parties. 'Probably hopes that I catch a blaster bolt between the eyes..' I grumbled to myself; Admiral Ozzel and I did not always see eye-to-eye on some matters. None the less, the Chain of Command had to be respected. Besides, I smirked to myself, with Lord Vader on board, the Admiral has to keep on his toes and watch himself, which means less irritating paperwork for me to deal with.

    Luke:

A soft wind blew across the sandy ground, the sand grains moving effortlessly, until hitting a solid figure, the figure stood still, gazing up into the sky.

With the occasional turn of the head, he watched through his binoculars, at the battle above, although, it wasn't completely clear to see, he had an idea of what was happening, afterall, anything to do with the rebellion, always got his attention.

Standing on a rock, which lifted him a few metres higher, he could make out, the firing from the ships as they thought, but it appeared that one inparticular was taking a beating, this one he figured was the rebellion, for it did look much smaller than the other.

He hoped at that moment, that somehow, they'd be alright....

    Winter

Winter was tired. She just came back from Darknell, her memory full with her life.
She had new orders, new missions, and would have to reach go to another world again.
She was to be a distraction, dressed as Leia, drawing thehounds of her track.

    Darth Vader

I stepped into hanger, the display in my helmet showed me the Tantive IV Bail Organa's ship. I narrowed my eyes. The Rebels had gotten too sloppy, just like the confederates had. It was hardly a challenge now.

I surveyed my 501st legion. They were my fist. They would show the rebel scum aboard Bail's ship what became of all that challenged Imperial Order. The officer-in-charge approached me. Captain Piett.

"I trust everything is in order Captain," I said.

I clicked my heels as I bowed. "Yes, Lord Vader. We are merely awaiting your approval before we commence searching the vessel; I thought it prudent to await your arrival." A bead of sweat ran down the back of my neck. You had to think very quickly on your feet around Lord Vader, and tread very, very, very lightly.

When my eyes fell on Vader, I did nothing, said nothing. I only remained dead still, focused on the entry like all the others troopers. But this ... this was the most dangerous part of the job. If Vader caught on to who I was here ...

I resisted the urge to shake my head, gritting my teeth. I couldn't think about it, couldn't let nerves get me. I knew enough about Jedi and Sith to know they could pick up like things like that. If he caught me now, I was in trouble.

But no matter what, I would get the job done.

That's why people payed me. I ALWAYS got the job done.

Leia Organa ducked into the escape pod bay room, a comlink in her hand. She glanced out the door one more time before activating the buzzer and keying in the frequency.

    "Artoo. Report to escape pods."

An answering beep was her reply, and Leia tucked the comlink back inside her belt for further use. She took out the small computer flash drive and looked at it, just to assure herself that is was indeed still there. She was getting jumpy, and jumpy led to trigger-happy. With an effort, she took large, deep breaths to slow her heart's beating.

It wasn't that Leia couldn't fight. It was that she didn't want to. Already, a deep feeling in her gut told her that they were going to lose this one. The survival of her men was top on her priority list. After this battle she would no longer be a free woman. She would be listed as a Rebel, and then executed along with every member of her crew.

Obi-Wan was her only hope. She read all about his famous missions during the Clone Wars, and how he had become the Negotiator. It was exactly what they needed right now.

Though, she wouldn't rule out a miracle. Quite frankly, Leia hoped her feelings were wrong.

    Threepio

Artoo suddenly turned around from where we were originally going, and I asked him "What are you doing?! We must escape before the Imperials board and destroy us! R2, you are getting in over your head this time!"

R2 booped and beeped at me, assuring me he knew what he was doing. However I could not trust him so easily, we were trapped!

But I followed him nonetheless, because I could not go on my own in a ship about to be boarded by the Empire. I needed R2, as much as I hated to admit it.

    R2-D2

I rolled across the hallway, going back just slightly to where Threepio and I were a moment ago. I needed to get to the escape pod bay, and I knew just how to get there. I would turn into one of the smaller hallways in just a few inches, and then after some small travelling in there I would turn again and the smaller hall would intersect with one of the larger white halls, which by that time would put us in the middle of the crossfire if my calculations were correct, but we could make it across and into the escape pod bay.

I had been prepared for this, which was why I already had a route memorized. I had known since talks of retreiving the Death Star Plans and their massive transfer from Rebel group-to-Rebel group was spoken of that I would need to do this.

But this mission had high importance to me, not just because of my prgoramming or the plans, but that we had to find Obi-Wan Kenobi. He was my old friend, one of the few old friends that was still alive...or would even remember me. Threepio doesn't remember the times we had together before his memory wipe, Padme was dead, and Anakin has probably forgotten all about me.

But this was no time to focus on the past, it was time to focus on the present. I continued on with my gold companion right behind me as we turned and exited this wider hallway...

    Vader

I dismissed Captain Piett to carry out my orders. He gave a curt bow then ordered the men to take the ship.

I just folded my arms and watched. I'd grown to respect clone efficiency during the Clone Wars and while the 501st wasn't comprised entirely of clone troopers any longer it was still impressive to see them punch a hole into the ship and begin filing in. I could sense the terror in the rebel ship. They knew they'd lost this fight. Yet the fools still continued.

If they'd just fall in line they wouldn't have to throw their lives away needlessly. The Fools.

Drawing my blaster pistol, I boarded the Tantive IV with two squads of troopers behind me. Detailing one group to secure the bridge, and check the logs and navicomp, I had the others follow me towards the stern section. A stormtrooper, his badge identifying him as TK-582 called out.

    Fett:

Moving in with the troopers, I stayed quiet, listened, waited. From what I knew about the Princess, she wouldn't stay hidden long. Stubborness was a trait of the family, along with a fools desire to not keep their heads out of a fight.

It was something I could respect, but it made it far more annoying for me to finish this job. I wasn't getting paid to bring back damaged goods.

*click* "Captain Piett, sir? I'm detecting movement about 35 metres ahead of us, and to the left." *click*

Slipping in with the group, I stayed silent, silently checking the charge on my blaster rifle and that my knuckle plate vibro knife, something that wasn't standard issue to troopers anymore but still saw some use amongst them, was secure. A fight was going to break out soon .... and depending on who it was, I could fight on either side.

    Princess Leia

I kept checking my blaster charge. Every few minutes I caught myself doing just that. I'd gotten to the point where I didn't even stop myself anymore. Even though I knew full well that it was charged completely after the first time.

It was something to pass the time until the droids arrived. Though I longed to be elswhere. The imperial troops had already entered the ship. I could hear blaster fire all throughout the ship. I knew men loyal to my father and the rebellion were dying and all I could do at the moment was pace and check my blaster charge.

Worse I knew Winter was out there somewhere. Knowing her she would be pretending she was me. Acting as decoy. I had to get to her as soon as the data was given to Artoo.

I sighed and prepared to call the droids again but just then I saw Artoo turn a corner with Threepio at his side. Finally I thought.

"It's about time," I muttered as the droids approached me.

    R2-D2

While Threepio stumbled around behind me, after we managed to get through one last main hall that the battle was continuing in, we got to the escape pod bay. I saw the royal Princess standing there waiting.

"I apologize for the delay, Princess," I beeped in the astromech chatter "Threepio and I got caught in a crossfire."

    Leia

"It's alright Threepio." I said but focusing my attention on the astromech at his side. I hardly had a close relationship with either droid. Mostly interacting with them when I rode the Tantative they belonged to Captain Antilles after all. But I knew they were loyal, especially R2-D2

"Come here Artoo, Threepio go keep a look out, if you see any storm troopers alert me immediatly," I said then accessed his memory port, I transfered the Death Star battle plans into his memory then ordered him to activate his holorecorder. Once he did I composed a short message to General Kenobi explaining what was contained within the droids memory.

He was the last hope we had now.

I switched off the recorder and looked at the droids. "Go to the escape pods right now and get off the ship. Artoo follow your orders."

That said I pulled out my blaster and ran away. I couldn't afford to be seen with them. With luck my capture would throw the trail off of the droids.

I checked the charge on my blaster, and signalled the troopers to advance and capture. I followed just behind the front man, setting an example that most officers in the Navy hadn't shown in years; leading from the front.

    Fett:

Frowning faintly under my helmet, I let myself slide back a bit to the rear, everyone so focused on the upcoming target that they didn't pay me any mind. Why would they? I was just another trooper.

I lined myself up so I would have a clear line of sight on every trooper in the group as we marched down the corridor, gripping my rifle tighter. The only one I couldn't get a clean shot on was the Captain near the front, the one my own research and the troopers called Piett. Still, I would settle for what I had.

It would be so easy to just open up, mow them down now. But if who was ahead wasn't the Princess, I would alert the Imps that I was here far sooner then I'd like. I would have at most two minutes before they realized what was going on and closed in on me. Even *I* wasn't crazy enough to take on an entire fully manned Star Destoryer, particularly with the 501st and Vader aboard.

Come on Princess. Show your pretty head so I can get this job done.

Winter had to protect the princess. And the only way she could think of, was to take her place. She noticed the bounty hunter go past her. He didn't seem to notice her. She took that as a cue to step behind him.

She pulled out a blaster, and standing in the same white dress as the princess herself, shouted: "Freeze!"

    Fett:

Stopping mid step, my grip tightened on the blaster. Fierfek, I didn't need this right now.

The other troopers were starting to turn towards me. I didn't need them opening up and hitting me, or worse, my bounty. Had to move fast. Jerking my head down and to the right suddenly, out of the line of fire, I snapped back with my elbow, catching my would be ambusher in the sternum, knocking the air from what I now knew to be a females lungs.

Reaching out and grabbing the wrist holding the blaster, I jerked it up so the weapon was aiming towards the celing, turning and cuffing the woman hard enough to split her lip with the back of my armored gauntlet.

Looking at her as she struggled to get free, for a moment I thought this was her. But I was a bounty hunter. I knew how to recognize my mark versus a decoy. This was obviously the later. Definetly had a stately, regal air to her and bared quite a resemblence to her, but her hair was a dye job. Well done to be certain, almost unnoticable, but I could tell the hair was white beneath.

Bail you bastard. You should have told me about a decoy. This is going to make things a fething lot harder.

I could hear the troopers moving closer and I pinned the woman to the wall with my forearm over her neck, applying enough pressure for her to know I could knock her out in less then a second. Clicking off my mic, I spoke low, knowing that this close she would barely hear me, but they wouldn't. "Stay still, shut up, and don't do anything stupid like that again. I'm not here for you."

Winter coughed, trying to get air back into her lungs. She was winded for a moment.
She didn't even change her expression. She did not know about the bounty, and presumed that Fett, which she recognised, was merely trying to make sure he had the princess.

"What else then would a bounty hunter in the apparent service of the empire seek on the Tantive IV. A luxury ride around the galaxy? Bounty hunter, don't try to make me laugh. You know as well as I do, that you're here for the princess, for me."

She looked at the rushing stormtroopers.

"Better hurry, or the empire will forfeit your payment Bobba Fett."

Hearing them closer now, to close to talk, I clicked my mic back on, pressing firmer on her throat to silence her, partially cutting off oxygen, but not enough to kill her. "Its not her. Just a decoy."

One of the troopers looking at be, voice synthizied by his helmet. "How can you tell?"

Glancing at the trooper, I frowned even if I knew he couldn't see it. "Its dye. Her hair's white."

Leaning closer, the trooper looked at her hair. ".... Fierfek. Your right."

The trooper reached for his rifle, but I shook my head. "No. We'll need her to answer questions."

The trooper looked at me for a moment, obviously starting to say something, when the comm buzzed. "We've got movement ahead."
