Re: Episode IV - Hope Returns

    Obi-wan

Arden gave me a wry smile and I stood up, already moving on from my little embarrassment. The look of the ship wasn't unfamiliar to me. This was a YT-1300 light frieghter. They were in use in my time. Solo didn't have much in the cargo hold but I supposed since times were tough that could be expected.

"I suppose I should go and reaquaint myself with the others now," I looked to Arden and she nodded.

"I'll be in here for a bit...looks like you found a good place to meditate."

I gave her a smile then exited, coming into the main hold. Leia was trying to move a datachip with the Force...she had her mother's dark hair and eyes and by the way she was glaring at the datachip...her mother's fire, perhaps from her father too. My eyes then settled on Chewabacca and HK-47.

The droid I wasn't excited to see. I'd seen him when I was captured. But the wookiee was a pleasant enough sight. Even when he roared at HK-47 when one of his pieces was killed off.

"Statement: It's a fair move. Screaming about it won't help you."

"I would be careful HK," I said. "Wookiees are not ones you want to upset. They've been known to rip arms out of sockets when they lose."

"Statement: If the hairball meatbag wants a fight. I welcome it."

"Master Obi-wan?" Leia turned her attention to me with a quizzical look.

"I can see now Leia, you look very much like your mother."

Re: Episode IV - Hope Returns

    Leia

Leia looked with some concern at the blinded man as he suddenly became very pale as if something had harmed him in some way. She made a move to step towards him so as to help the man if he fell over, but he spoke before she could see if he was okay.

"You ought to continue with your exercises...I need to go meditate...there is a disturbance in the Force."

The woman frowned for a moment concerned for the older man, but he seemed to be okay. It was probably best to just let the man be, especially when dealing with the Force. She did, however, get the feeling that something bad was going to happen. The problem was she couldn’t tell when.

Taking up the lightsaber that Obi-Wan had given to her, she held it in her fist looking at the weapon for a moment. Leia pondered about the construction of such a weapon, how something like this would work.

“Okay, Master Obi-Wan,” she said after a moment. She looked up at Kenobi still a little worried about him. But he was the Jedi Master in this situation, she guessed. And she was his pupil. It was probably in her best interests to learn how to use this power of the Force she held within her. “I will do as you ask.”

She took up the helmet he had given to her previously and walked back over to the remote.

Okay, Leia. You know what to do. Try to use this Force that you have and feel with it, just as Kenobi told you to do.

Firmly placing the helmet over her head she was once again plunged into darkness. She activated the lightsaber she held and barked an order at the remote to start her practice. As she heard the hum of the saber, she stopped concentrating on the darkness her eyes saw and instead tried to reach out with the Force. This was something that she was finding hard to do and was hit a couple of times by the remote’s lasers before she could even get the chance to block them.

Getting frustrated at her inability to even do something so simple, she started to get angry at herself. As yet another laser hit, Leia swore and felt the urge to give up.

Don’t give up yet, woman. You need to learn how to do this if you want to save your people.

Sighing deeply Leia concentrated harder on the weapon in her hand, on the remote floating above her. She wanted to get this right, wanted to learn how to use this Force and use it to help people. She tried to feel the things around her, tried to feel the Force that swirled around her.

It was much like a dance for her. She moved around concentrating on the Force and not on the blast shield that blinded her. After a few moments and a couple of movements of her wrists, she had managed to deflect the lasers that the remote fired at her.

Deactivating the saber, she quickly took the helmet from her head and smiled. She had managed to do it this time without the guidance of the Jedi. Feeling somewhat pleased that she had managed it after being so frustrated and annoyed at herself, she placed both the lightsaber and the helmet down on a nearby seat and then took a seat at the counter.

Wondering what else she could do, Leia noticed a datachip lying forgotten on the counter. Paying no attention to the wookiee and the antique droid that Kenobi picked up from somewhere, she looked down at the chip willing it to move.

She hadn’t even noticed that Obi-Wan had come back into the main hold until she heard him speak. Leia glanced up for a moment at the Jedi with an inquisitive look then frowned a little. She was certain that there was something different about the man now.

"I can see now Leia, you look very much like your mother."

Leia stared for a moment in stunned silence wondering what to say to Jedi. So many questions she could have asked him, so many questions she felt were left unanswered.

“Y-you can see?” she started. She stood from her seat and walked over to the Jedi a confused look on her face. “But I thought…How did…” Leia paused for a moment uncertain as to what to say. “My mother. What was she like?”

    Mara Jade

She was annoyed. No, not annoyed. She was pissed.

How could that thing of man do this to her? She was the Emperor’s Hand dammit, she knew what she was doing. She was one of the best at what she did. How dare Vadar come and take away what she had tried so hard to get?

The redhead was fuming as she stormed down a corridor. She had to go see her Master and demand to know just why one of his cronies had taken away her prize. Wasn’t she capable of doing this? Did he not trust her? Of course he trusted her. But why was Vadar here?

“I have to get my ship back and Skywalker back,” she fumed. “But how?”

She wasn’t actually full of ideas at the moment but she was sure that something would come to her if she just thought about how she would be able to do it and get away from this damned place.

    Come on think, Mara. Think.

((OOC: Any ideas about what to do with Mara at this stage? I’m kinda stuck here and clue as to what to do would be good. :3))

Your posts are great Kat! Thanks. As far as Mara...I've been stuck too. We'll be getting to the Death Star soon so there will be something for her to do then. In the meantime she needs to contact the Emperor. I imagine she'd want to do it in secret since Vader doesn't want her to and likely is having her followed

    Obi-wan

The excitement I felt from having my vision back immediately faded when Leia asked me to tell her about her Mother. It had caught me off guard but I suppose I should have expected it given the fact that I had mentioned her. I took a breath and called up a few memories of Padme, trying to decide what I would say.

"Your mother was perhaps the strongest supporter of Democracy I ever met. When I first knew her she was already an accomplished stateswoman, she was one of the best senators in the Galaxy and a fierce fighter...and she was a good friend. I understand you've become a great senator yourself."

    Leia

Leia noticed that some of Obi-Wan’s previous excitement had disappeared when she asked about her mother. She frowned a little once again confused as to what was going on. Had she done something wrong? Had she asked the wrong question? It had been him who mentioned her mother after all and even though she was happy about his vision’s sudden return, she still wondered what her mother was like.

There was a long silence before he spoke to her as if he was recalling some memories, perhaps some he would rather forget. Leia felt a little sad at this, she hadn’t meant to make him remember things that he would rather forget.

"Your mother was perhaps the strongest supporter of Democracy I ever met. When I first knew her she was already an accomplished stateswoman, she was one of the best senators in the Galaxy and a fierce fighter...and she was a good friend. I understand you've become a great senator yourself."

The woman smiled a little as he spoke glad that he spoke so highly of her mother. She had been afraid that he didn’t wish to remember her and it made her wonder more than usual about her parentage.

“I’d hardly call myself a great senator, Master Obi-Wan,” she said quietly. “If I were then things would not be as they are right now with the Empire and so on.”

She didn’t continue, she just fell silent for a moment reflecting on her past dealings with the Senate.

“I guess I could be,” she said finally. “I seems to be what I do well.”

    Han

"Hey, I hate to break up the special moment and all but we're about to arrive at Alderaan," I said as I emerged into the common room. "Chewie, you can finish losing at dejarik later."

Chewie and I then made our way back to the cockpit and within seconds we'd exited hyperspeed. That's when things got bad.

"What the--?!" I exclaimed as I saw large meteors flying toward us. Said meteors were also pounding away at the hull of the Falcon causing her to shake and vibrate. "Ah, hell! We just exited hyperspace right in the middle of a meteor shower!"

Chewie growled a question at me.

"What do you mean 'What did I do?'" I cried. "How the hell am I supposed to drive in the middle of hyperspace? This is where we're supposed to be...I think..."

The ship rocked and I nearly lost my balance. I looked at Leia and then to Fett, Arden came from the back her face mixed with curiosity and annoyance. Another jostle of the ship and I started toward the cockpit. This wasn't the ship shaking out of hyperspace due to poor inertial dampeners. No. This was something hitting us.

I passed HK-47 as we went.

"Statement: Master it is a distinct pleasure to see you fully operational again I was worried that..."

I didn't even stop to pay attention to him and the last part of his statement was lost to me as I entered the cockpit. We were in open space again but there was a debris field surrounding us. Rocks and boulders in space swarming around us. Solo worked the ship around them and I remained standing.

"What seems to be the problem?" I asked. There was a sinking feeling entering my heart now.

The princess smiled briefly as the man mentioned her father again. It made her wonder about her parentage and having asked Obi-Wan about her mother, she seemed reluctant to ask him the same of her father. She knew he was a Jedi Knight, Qui-Gon had told her as much in the dream she had had. But he never mentioned who he actually was.

However before she could gain enough courage to ask the man about her father, when that infuriating flyboy came back into the main hold to announce their arrival at Alderaan. Leia forgot all about her questions at hearing this wishing instead to go to the cockpit and see the planet she called home.

Suddenly she jolted from her feet by the ship’s movement. Leia grabbed at a near by seat to try and catch herself. Noticing Obi-Wan looking over at her and the strange red headed female Jedi entering the main hold, she grabbed at the chair again as the ship rocked.

What in space is going on?

Seeing the Jedi running towards the cockpit, Leia followed suit wishing to know what was going on and why this flyboy was so bad at flying this pile of junk. She was about to berate him for his bad flying when she reached the cockpit and looked out into space and saw nothing but rocks.

"What seems to be the problem?" She heard the Jedi standing next to her ask.

But she didn’t need Solo to tell her what was wrong, she knew it the moment she saw it. This was the trouble was knew was going to happen and this was probably what Kenobi felt when he said there was a disturbance.

"The problem is we're in the right place but there's no Alderaan. The coordinates are right, but it's like the planet just disappeared..."

Leia could do nothing. She was too stunned to do anything. Something was wrong, this could not be right. Perhaps this Han Solo was a fool as well as infuriating.

“Perhaps you put the coordinates in wrong, flyboy,” she snapped. “Can you even get us out of this mess you managed to put us in then?”

"I've been to Alderaan dozens of times," Arden said from behind us all. "I can see the coordinates in the navicomputer from here. We're in the right place and we should be looking right at the planet right now. Something isn't right here."

"No," I said quietly, reaching into the Force...I could feel only pain and suffering...an echo of life as if millions of voice all had cried out in terror and and agony and then were suddenly silenced. "Alderaan has been--"

Before I could finish the ship rocked again and I looked up. For a moment I thought it had been another astroid...but then a small fighter ship, of no design that I recognized swooped past the cockpit and kept heading into space.

"What is a small ship like that doing out here?" I scratched my beard curiously.

Re: Episode IV - Hope Returns

    Fett:

I had come up from where I had been making contact with Drek just as we left hyperspace, slamming into a bulkhead at the sudden jarring impacts. Cursing, I rushed to the cockpit. What had that idiot smuggler done now!?

Pulling up short in the entryway to the cockpit, my mind reeled for a moment, running through some mental charts. It didn't make sense. The Alderaan system, if my memory was accurate, HAD no asteroid fields. Only five planets, two populated, and a single mineral rich mining asteroid near the edge of the system. And even that idiot Solo wouldn't screw up entering the system into the navi computer.

Could my memory be mistaken? I had seen so many systems and so many worlds over the course of my life, could I have mistaken one for another?

Glancing over at Kenobi, at the Princess, I could see I wasn't. A cold knot formed in the pit of my stomach, my mind flashing back to what Drek had told me.

"... They're making something massive. They have enough material to make an entire fleet of Star Destroyer's and still have enough left over for an entire compliment of escort craft."

Even WITH a fleet that massive, they couldn't .... it wasn't possible.

But if it wasn't, why was this cold dread building in my gut?

The distinct whine of the TIE fighter buzzing us, darting over and away from us, making fast for open space snapped me out of my thoughts. I latched onto it quickly, latched onto something I could focus on. The truth was, I didn't WANT to think of what this new asteroid field could mean.

"TIE fighter. Short range, high speed carrier based fighter craft. Looks like an TIE/rc variant. Designed for recon. Lightly armed, no shielding."

Watching it pull away quickly, I narrowed my eyes, a curse escaping my lips. "Solo, get this tub of yours moving. That thing isn't out here alone and once its clear of the fields interferance, its going to call down every frakking craft in the system on us."

Re: Episode IV - Hope Returns

ooc: Gonna use a few lines from Luke and Han from the movie just for flow of the post.

    Obi-wan

I furrowed my brows at the small ship. TIE fighter, based on the fact that those looked like Ion engines I could guess that "TIE" was an acronym. But the real question was what it was doing out here...and where did a ship that size make berth? Either way there was a life sign in there...and so far no sign of it's carrier. A there was no reason for someone to die at this moment.

"It would be as well to let it go," I said, "It's too far out of range."

"Not for long," Solo replied and the Falcon sped up.

"A fighter that size couldn't have gotten this deep into space on it's own," I leaned forward.

"He must have gotten lost," Leia said. "Been part of a convoy or something."

I glanced at where Alderaan should have been...only a debris field was left. The terror and pain I had felt when we'd come out of hyperspace...the fact the planet was gone. Only one thing made sense at this point. Though how the Empire did it was beyond me. Everyone else seemed just as confused so I could only guess that it was a new weapon, not something they were all familiar with.

"Alderaan was destroyed by the Empire," I stated.

"The entire starfleet couldn't destroy the whole planet, it would take a thousand ships with more firepower than I..."

"Observation: The ship appears to be heading toward that small moon."

"I think I can get him before he gets there," Solo said. "He's almost in range."

I stared at the moon...there was something...Alderaan didn't have any moons. And yet there was one right...and the way the light from Alderaan's star hit it...and how it was illuminated on the other side...there was a tremor in the Force and suddenly I realized what it was we were looking at...what must have been the instrument of Alderaan's destruction.

    "That's no moon," Arden said.

    "It's a space station," I added.

    "Kriff ...."

I hadn't even realized I said anything until a few seconds after the fact, thankful for the helmet muffeling my words. It wouldn't do for the others to know seeing this ... thing infront of us affected me.

It was MASSIVE. The only construct I had ever seen come close to it in size was Centerpoint Station in Corellia and THAT wasn't even functional. This thing clearly was. And we now had our answer to what happened to Alderran ... no matter how impossible it seemed.

The sheer SCOPE of the sort of firepower such an act would require was mind boggling. An entire planet, over two billion sentients ... gone. Turned into dust. Men, women, children .... nothing left but rubble and dust left of them.

    It was ....

I could already feel the hull shaking and I surpressed a curse. I knew what that meant, the strain of the engines whining as we were gripped by an invisible hand. "How strong is it Solo?"

The ship shook so violently before Solo switched on the weapons that I was almost afraid that it would shake apart entirely. I glanced at Arden as Solo declared his intentions of going down with cannons blazing. She was entranced by the space station...technology hadn't exactly leaped and bounded since she had been a part of the Galaxy, but this was nothing like any of us knew.

"You can't win," I said to Solo. "But there are alternatives to fighting."

"Wait a minute Fett," I frowned. "Let me get this straight, you want all of us but you and Solo to hide in the smuggling holds?"

Warning bells were going off in my mind. From what I'd seen of Boba Fett so far, he was every bit his father's son. He hadn't betrayed Leia thus far but that didn't mean he wouldn't...and there were the comments he had made to me. A definite hostile edge in them. Now more than ever I had to wonder how much we could trust the Mandalorian.

"Surely there is another way," I said.

"Oh, there is. You can go ahead and eat your saber now if you prefer. On a station that size they're going to have thousands of soldiers. And I doubt even the "legendary General Kenobi" can fight off an entire stations worth of men. Our one and only option is to not alert them that your here."

Shaking my helmet, I scowled, playing out countless scenario's in my head. None of them good. But I wasn't about to die here. "And if they find an empty ship, they're going to search that much harder. But a ship with a crew already on it .... you'll be able to hide or at the very least slip away from the ship. Once they see that its nothing more then a bounty hunter out to collect his reward, we'll be free and clear."

"If you'll recall only a few moments ago it was I that suggested another path that didn't include fighting. But you seem to be forgetting one crucial thing. Arica is here on this ship which means she'll be able to tell the Empire that this is not your ship and that Leia and I are on board."

Solo and Leia looked confused as to how I knew that. I pointed to the computer that had been set to monitor the tracking device in the Rogue Shadow. It blinked as though we were literally right on top of it.

"Arica has already likely filed a report on the entire incident."
