    Fett:

Smart girl. I knew she was lying and even I believed her. Nodding my head, I kept my hand resting on my rifle.

"That's right. I figure anything the Rebels could offer, the Empire could, say .... double it? After all, our little Princess is set quite deep in their network. Safe houses, comm codes, weapons caches, the names of the Rebel High Command? You could sweep the whole rebellion up in a matter of weeks with info like that."

"Make no mistake," Vader said. "I intend to, and we will start with the Rebel Base, she will tell me where to find it. The question we are debating right now is whether or not I believe you, and whether or not you'll be leaving this station alive."

The Dark Lord stepped closer but Fett remained resolute. "So why should I believe that you are here for the bounty on her head or not up to some trick?"

Again, faceless masks stared into each other and some sort of contest of wills was happening. Vader was clearly trying to read Fett through the Force. The real question was whether or not Fett had himself conditioned to repel such an invasion...and whether or not Vader would take such a repulsion as a sign that there was treachery afoot.

"Very well bounty hunter," Vader finally said. "But know this, if you are lying and you do somehow manage to escape this ship, the job you took from the Rebels will be the last one you ever get. I will personally see that no one deals with you."

I couldn't hear what was going on very well up there, but I still had my blaster out just in case and my face to the ceiling. It was just my luck that someone, from the heavy footfalls it had to be whoever had come aboard my ship, stepped on the hold-cover hard enough to make some dust fall onto my face. Immediately feeling a sneeze coming on I barely stifled it, but the footfalls immediately stopped at that moment and I had a mental image running through my head of a figure turning around and slowly coming back. Luckily someone up above managed to cover my error by making a fake sneeze of their own and our unknown, at least to me, guest turned again to leave...

    Fett:

"Figure a lightsaber in the gut will do that to anyone, won't it?"

Levering the stock of my rifle into the Princess's spine, I shoved her forward roughly. "Come on Princess, lets not keep them waiting. I've got credits to collect and you have a date to keep."

Dealing with Jedi, Sith, anyone that could read your thoughts was to give them what they wanted to see. I let my desire for credits, my thoughts of how I would spend my reward take the point, gave Vader what he expected. Under that I planted more mundane thoughts, worries and concerns that would be normal. Layer everything over what I wanted to keep secret, have them bored and content with what they saw before they got to deep.

As we walked, I noted where we were going, corridor numbers, locations of elevator shafts or guard stations, but slid them deep, out of sight, keeping thoughts about that pretty little secretary in the naval uniform or the thoughts of what that scent I was picking up through my helmet at the fore to further muddy the waters.

"Seems even for the Empire your new toy is a bit much. I doubt you'd need all this to take over an entire system. Nice to see our tax credits at work though."

"The Death Star is but one tool we will use to crush any resistance to the Empire," Vader responded with almost a bored tone. He clearly didn't see the space station as an end all solution to his Empire's problems.

We continued to walk, this place seemed to have everything. I almost expected to find a cafe here. Of course there wasn't a way to feel casual with a Sith Lord breathing near you. We needed to get away from Vader, with him literally breathing down our necks, it was going to be hard to get anything done.

And then it seemed that the Force gave us a gift. An officer approached our little convoy and bowed curtly to Vader.

"Lord Vader," he said. "We have received a communication from the Emperor. He commands that you make contact so you may report your progress."

"Very good commander," he said. He then looked to Fett. "You will receive your credits after the princess has been processed. Have a care bounty hunter, you will be watched everywhere you go on this station."

And with that he was gone.

Watching Vader go, I continued to keep my guard up, just in case he was still watching me through the Force or whatever crap those Sith and Jedi do, but inside I let a laugh loose. This was going a bit better then I had hoped. Maybe we did have a chance.

Looking to the Stormtroopers escorting us, as always letting nothing show, I gestured forward with the chin of my helmet. "Well, lets get going. I have a hot lead on another target in the Corellian System and I'm losing time here."

Slowly I conciousness floated back to me. It was at first like pulling water from a pail of water at the bottom of a well. Taunt resistance from far away. I could hear noises but recognize them. I could feel breath in my lungs but couldn't open my mouth to form words. I could move my eyes but couldn't concentrate on anything.

For a moment my mind flashed to what it had been like frozen in carbonite. And my half concious brain thought that was what was happening to me. I tried to move my arms and legs but couldn't.

But I could feel the Force and that provided me with an instant center. I concentrated my breathing on it and then let it flow through my body. After a few moments I could feel my hands and feet again and I could focus... on the blackness in the the smuggler's hold.

"How long was I out?" I asked as I sat myself up.

"Long enough," I muttered in reply. "The rest have gone with Vader. I tell you, he may be the Emperor's right-hand man but he's got serious asthma problems."

Chewie let out a low growl to Obi-Wan. I turned to translate.

"Chewie wants to know what you were so worried about when Vader came on board. He says if you're a Jedi you should be able to hide your presence with the Force.

"Wait," I said turning to face Chewie. "How do you know so much about the Jedi?"

Chewie smirked. Or at least he gave the wookiee equivalent of a smirk...

"Quiet," I merely said and closed my eyes, and letting out another rhythmic breath. I concentrated on the area around us, then expanded until I located him. Vader wasn't close by any longer.

"I'm afraid Chewbacca is misinformed Captain," I finally said, though I kept expanding my concentration. "Most Jedi are not capable of hiding their Force Signatures, and if two Jedi know each other they will recognize each others presence even stronger. Vader would have sensed me easily had I been consc..."

There he was. Luke. I could sense him. There was a good deal of confusion and anger with him. I could only imagine what Vader had done to him. Leia was not too far from his position and if I focused... yes, the woman that had called kidnapped Luke in the first place.

Now that I had attuned myself to the other Force users on the Station it would be easier to track and avoid them if needed.

"Alright," I stood up. "It's time for us to go."

"You're right," I said. "I don't know my way around this place. But there is work to be done if we are to escape."

I pulled myself from the smuggler's hold. "Arden and Fett will work to get Luke and Leia released, but that...tractor beam that pulled us in will prevent us from making a true escape. It needs to be taken down."

I thought back to a mission that I had participated in just prior to the purge. I had been shown by a Republic Intelligence Officer how the military grade tractor beams worked and how to shut them down. That was over twenty years ago but I was willing to wager that they similar in design today as well.

But there was more on my mind than shutting down the tractor beam. I had wanted to hide my presence from Vader when he had approached the ship so as not to endanger the others. But now that I had an opportunity to get out on my own... Vader and I had a rematch that was long over due.

"Furthermore we need to look into finding the droids that Leia lost. If I understand correctly then the information on R2 will be vital to the survival of the Rebellion. There is work to be done friend."

    Fett:

The trip down to the detention level was surprisingly quiet, though I made certain to plot out any routes that might serve as an escape route should the need arise. And of course, it was lightly staffed. This ship still reeked of disenfectants, saudering, and fresh paint. The signs of being fresh from the shipyard. It was doubtful there had been much time for to much dereliction of duty and the like.

At the moment their were only three Naval Troopers down here, along with the stormie escort we had gotten. Turning to one, I grabbed the Princess to stop her from going any further, looking at one of the troopers that had stepped from the elevator, not having much choice but to trust the jedi woman to watch the ones still inside. "You don't get the girl until I get my credits."

Re: Episode IV - Hope Returns

    Arden

I didn't recognize the uniforms, or the armor, or the designs of the facility, but after a few millenia a few things just didn't change, and that was the fact that common soldiers got bored easily if they didn't understand the full importance of what their tasks were.

And this was no exception. The stance of the soldiers, their shoulders hung low, their feet barely clearing the floor, the dull tone of voice. This was a routine for them and they were barely paying attention. Fett's question about payment applied to their senior officers and not them.

It was comforting to know that some things never changed and we could count on there slothful outlook to help us get through this.

I kept my eyes on Fett and more specifically Leia as we stepped out into the detention area's receiving room. The officer in charge's eyes traveled up and down Leia before turning his attention slowly to Fett.

"We've just received word from Grand Moff Tarkin that the money has been transferred to your account. You can turn the...prisoner over to us now. We'll take good care of her."

I kept my face even but inwardly I was already preparing myself to attack, and make sure that the lecherous toad in front of me got his due. However, I kept myself in check, if we could avoid doing this without violence then we needed to... not that I trusted my companion to do things that way...

    Obi-wan

HK-47 was last out from the smuggling holds. I gave a quick look both ways down the hallway. If it was just myself then I wouldn't have had a problem. With the Force I could be all but invisible to the guards that would be just outside of this ship's loading ramp. But I had Captain Solo and Chewbacca to think about at the moment.

"Statement: My sensors pick up Imperial codes and transmissions. A scanning crew is approaching. Query: May I eviscerate them master? It had been a long time since I've had blood on my chassis!"

"No." I glared at the droid. "And that is a question that I never want to hear again."

The unmistakable sound of a repulsor field echoed off the walls and we all pressed ourselves flat against the bulkheads. The scanning crew was heading our way. They were just past the ramp. Within clear earshot of the stormtroopers guarding the entrance.

Before Captain Solo could say anything I struck out with the Force and knocked the scanning crew and their equipment against the wall, sending both of them into unconsciousness. However that thud would have been heard. Time for some quick thinking.

"Excuse me down there!" I called. "Would you mind giving us a hand with this?"

Now suspecting a simple spill the stormtroopers came up with their weapons lowered. Captain Solo shot them both before I could act. I shook my head as we walked toward the bodies. It wasn't what I would have wanted but there wasn't time to get after him.

"We must don their armor," I said. Then stuff all of them in the smuggler's holds "After that we should be able to move freely about the station."

"Great, sneaking around," I muttered as I began to pull the armor off one of the dead stormtroopers. "Just what I had planned for my day."

I then glanced over at Chewie who was holding one of the stormtroopers helmets in his paws with a bemused expression on his face. I turned to Obi-Wan.

"What do we do about Chewie? We can't leave him here," I said. Obi-Wan's reply was to pull out a set of binders. "Please don't tell me you're thinking what I think you're thinking..."

"For now, no," I said as I put the binders away, then slipped on the armor. I had to remove my cloak and more than likely leave it on the ship. I turned my attention back to Solo. "Our companions are already attempting that trick. I don't know that it shall work another time. Besides we're not trying to get to the detention area."

Before I could finish my thought a voice scrambled in my earpiece. "TK421 why aren't you at your post? TK421 answer me!"

Looked back to Solo. "I will distract the deck officer. You, Chewbacca, and HK-47 go to the control room where he's at and attack as soon as they open the door."

I tightened the helmet then walked down the ramp. We were right in front of the control room and the docking bay was otherwise unwatched. His entire focus was on me as I tapped the side of my helmet, leaving him to believe that there was something wrong with my transmitter. I barely noticed the others slip past me and to the small stairway that led to the control room.

Gripping the E-11 blaster I'd commandeered from the dead stormtrooper I rushed down the hall with Chewie and HK-47 close behind me. We arrived just as the doors were starting to open. As they did they revealed a young stormtrooper commander standing behind it and looking thoroughly bewildered at our arrival. Chewie didn't give him long to think as he roared and smacked the guy across the room. HK and I followed up by planting a blaster-bolt each into the second officer in the room who was reaching for his weapon. We moved in to quickly secure the room as Obi-Wan came dashing up the hallway himself...

We'd made it out of the ship. That would have to be good enough for now. And the Force seemed to be on our side as we were now in a control room. With a greater possibility of being able get a better idea of what was going on in the station and where our friends are.

"HK," I said. "Interface with the computer, see if you can't interpret the Imperial Network."

"Objection: Master I am an assassin droid not a utility unit! I cannot interface with a computer is such a way! This... I... master... Master pehraps you need to read my instruction manual. I can download it onto a datapad for you, or even recite it if that is too much."

"Blast," I muttered as I moved to the computer and tried to access it. It required codes and passwords. None of which we had. Any astromech droid could have by passed them. Without a way to access the computer network we were blind up here."

And then as if in answer to my frustrations there was an alarmed whistling inside a nearby closet. I opened it and to my surprise an astromech droid wheeled out, excitedly chirping and whirring. Whistling a mile a minute. It looked exactly like--"

"Translation: This Astromech droid identifies himself as R2-D2, Master," HK said.

"R2!" I leaned down. "I thought it was you my little friend. What were you doing in that closet?"

The droid stopped spinning about and answered.

"Translation: He says that he was attempting to escape before they could wipe his memory. He entered the room pretending to run routine maintenance but had to hide himself in the closet when the control tower crew switched. It was only after we came in that he decided he had to investigate."

"Always getting into trouble," I grinned, finding myself amazed at how happy I was to see this little R2 unit. I'd never much valued him when he belonged to Anakin but now... he was a link to my lost past. "I am happy that you're here. We need your help. Do you still have the plans to this battle station?"

The droid made a low 'whoooing' sound. I didn't need HK to translate that. Clearly he didn't have it any longer.

"Plug into the computer," I said. "See if you can't locate the plans and download them again. Also bring up a schematic, we need to disable the tractor beam, lastly see if you can't locate Luke, or Leia."

The droid beeped an affirmative and slotted in. I stood up and turned to Solo. "It would seem that we made the right decision in leaving the ship after all."

"Well, this aught to be good," I muttered as I sat down in a chair and watched the astrodroid accessing the station's mainframe. I then turned to Obi-Wan. "Just a question though, what if we run into Vader?"

"If we encounter Vader," I said. "You run the opposite direction and let me deal with him."

R2 began beeping and squealing, even rocking back and forth slightly. We turned to him and then looked to HK.

"Translation: The R2 unit has located the Death Star Plans and will be able to download them, he also claims that he has found his counter part. A C-3P0... protocol droid."

I knew Threepio but at the moment he wasn't one of my primary concerns. "R2 download the plans and then display where the tractor beam is located."

R2 merely beeped a couple times.

"Translastion: He wants to know what you are going to do about C-3P0."

"If we have time to recover him we will," I said. "In the mean time bring up the information we want."

The droid made a "dwooo" sound and then chirped a few times.

"Translation: He says that he cannot download the information unless he has C-3P0 with him. Statement: That doesn't make any sense! Command: You are a Utility droid! Do as Master Kenobi says!"

    R2 beeped once.

"Exclamation: Piss off!? Why you half witted trash compactor! I'm going to rip out your malformed circuits right--"

"HK," I said. "Leave him be. If Artoo can't do it without Threepio then he can't do it without Threepio. We'll go and find the droid and then shut down the tractor beam. Bring up the coordinates and we'll go."

R2 beeped once and the information to where the tractor beam relay was and where to find 3P0 came up.

"Let's go then," I said and grabbed my helmet.
