PC action is a German Magazine so the translations are iffy right now. We'll get better specifics next week when PC Game comes out. For now you can read about the details on swtor-station. If it comes up in German, click the little us/uk flag in the upper right corner of the page, it will change the page to the English version. Here are the details.

    Space Combat

    * Sprace Combat reminds of Rebel Assault

We call this gameplay "tunnel shooter". That means there are especially designed levels which make you follow a certain path. The player has a range of weapon systems to choose from to use against his enemies. You will receive a quest beforehand. If you're in space you will automatically receive side quests.

    * Missions are supposed to be a few minutes short and are more of an "action snack".

    * There won't be any PvP space combat at launch, but it's a possible feature for a later state of the game.

    * PC action played a mission, which included fighters, corvettes and cruisers. There task was to shoot 20 fighters and destroy the enemy's capital ship.

    * Missions are well-staged/designed, there won't be any flying around doing nothing.

    * Space combat is single-player for now, the hotspots are chosen from you space ship's bridge.

    * Escort missions are planned.

    * Space combat missions are completely optional for now, if you don't want to do them, you don't have to.

    * There are six different types of space ships. Smuggler, Bounty Hunter, Agent and Trooper will have their own type of shop. The two Jedi and the two Sith classes will have to share a type.

    Classes

    * The Jedi Knight will be able to choose the guardian or warden/sentinel specialization [names might differ]. The guardian is good at taking damages whereas the warden is a more offensive class. Seems like we've got a tank and a DPS class here.

    * The Trooper also has to choose between two specializations: "Weapon stage" and "Super Trooper" [names might differ]. Whereas the first specialization focuses on heavy weapons, the "Super Trooper" is supposed to be more flexible and quick carrying an assault rifle.

    * Similar details were mentioned earlier and PC Action again confirms that the Jedi Consular may choose between a "control" or "support" specialization.

    Companions

    * Jedi Knights will have a little T7 droid as their first companion. The little unit will be in for a good fight since it's equipped with blasters and rockets.

Apart from that PC Action does not deliver any new information and just repeats everything we already know about classes and planets. There are a few new screenshots though.

Thanks to ranzino, who provided his subscriber issue, and thanks to SWTOR-Welten for forwarding it!

Again, a big thank you for swtor-station.com for providing the translation!

Well I think its good news, I would like to see PvP space combat but they have not written it off so it may come later on i guess. I also like the fact that it is optional so players who are not interested in doing it do not have to.

Me too, because honestly, I could care less about space pew pew. I'm interested in TOR because it brings BioWare stories to the Star Wars universe, in an MMO setting.

I hope it's good for people who want that sort of thing, but I always laughed at the folks who said, "Show me one good Star Wars game without true space combat, you can't have a STAR WARS game without space combat!"

Really? I can't? Dark Forces/Jedi Knight Series, KOTOR 1 & 2, none of these (that I remember) had true X-Wing vs TIE fighter type flight sim space combat and they represent my favorite Star Wars games.

That's cool, and I hope the space combat is really fun for you. It's just not my cup o' tea, that's all. I might dabble from time to time, but it's not what has my attention.

    Anyway...

UPDATE: I also got ahold of scans from the PC Gamer article:

A few things i did not like.

I find that kind of disappointing. Bioware have clearly said many times that they want you to feel like a hero and be heroic. Isn't it heroic to take down the whole death star with an X-Wing? Or Destroying multiple Sith player ships for your rebel guild? It's not a huge deal or anything since it also said it could possibly be a feature that would be put in later. Still, kind of a turn off.

What does that last part mean exactly? "Sith and Jedi will have to share a type".

otherwise everything else sounds great. Although will the T7 droid be customizable in terms of looks if we choose to be a Jedi Knight?

actually now that i have read it more closely, space combat sounds VERY DISAPPOINTING.

Basically when the article stated that space combat will be a tunnel shooter, think of star fox. You know, the very enjoyable SNES/N64 game back in the day. Very fun and great game. However, for an MMO, this system would be terrible.

In tunnel shooters, as the article stated, will have missions that would be short (say 5-10 minutes long), but very action pack and fast paced. Once again, just like each stage/mission in Starfox. Another thing about Tunnel shooters, when you start a mission, your ship can only move forward to your goal. You can change direction while moving forward (up, down, left, right) but you can't turn back, turn right, or turn left. You can only go forward.

What it sounds like to me, is that they will treat space combat as a mini-game and not as a full feature like walking on land or flying/driving with a mount/vehicle and going where ever you want, when you want. Instead, it will be only used for missions. Which would be a huge let down in my opinion.

Now I could be dead wrong since the game is not even close to being out yet soon, however, after reading the article, this is what space combat sounds like. And if it turns out to be true, then that would be very disappointing. I was hoping for open-world space type like open world land. I will probably still love the game once i play it, but this news hurts me a lot :(

JNA, Space Combat doesn't sound disappointing to me, but that's only because I really don't care about it. I've never really enjoyed space shooters.

I'm only interested in TOR because BioWare is adding story to an MMO and it's Star Wars. I've always thought it was the one big thing missing from an MMO. In fact, if BioWare doesn't deliver on the promised story experience, this will probably be the last MMO I play. Between my fiance, my dog and my career, my personal life is quickly running out of time to play games like this. Unless something really rocks my world, I'm not going to have much incentive to make time to play.

As far as the quote above, what they are trying to say is; Both the Jedi Knight and Jedi Consular will share the Vanguard Class Light Corvette shown at E3. While, the Sith Warrior and Sith Inquisitor will share the Sith Fury Class Imperial Transport also shown at E3.

Definitely. I never said because of lack of space "content" or whatever they call it as the killer of me even playing the game, because im still gonna pre-order it, still gonna play it, still gonna love it, still gonna master-bait to the hot digital characters in the game (kidding, my life is not that sad yet), just kind of disappointed since to me star wars, like the name itself, involves a lot of....well....space. So just like in land, i would think the space part would be just as open world as well.

I can understand that and just because that gameplay doesn't interest me, doesn't mean I don't see the need for it. I know people really want it, so for those that do, I hope whatever ends up in the game at launch, exceeds the expectations set by this article.

Judging from the latest articles, I'd say this original article was off-center.
