From the looks of it, you are asking for people mainly in the 60's and some 70's/80's.

    Some of the oldies that I listen to are Pink Floyd (60's - 80's), Black Sabbath (70's - 80's), Blue Oyster Cult (70's - 80's), Deep Purple (60's - 70's), The Doors (60's), Foreigner (70's - 80's), and that is only a few. Hope I have helped.

I used to listen a lot to songs of Frank Sinatra and Matt Monroe since my grandfather had cassette tapes of their songs. And he had also played it almost in a daily basis before. We also have tapes of Abba and can still remember singing along while their songs are playing just like The Winner Takes it All and Fernando.

Barry White may not have been the most talented when it came to singing. But at the same time, he had a deep and distinct voice that sounded like no other. I still enjoy his music.

The BeeGees were a one of a kind band. They had a different sound to them, particullary the lead singer. He had quite the high voice.

Check out Alfred Apaka. You can't find much of his material on youtube, but there's a bunch of it up on Soulseek. It's public domain as far as I know, so you can download it without fear of legal reprecussion.

Give Don Ho a whirl as well. The Ink Spots are good fun too.

    I guess I'll do it...

    Elvis Presley

    Some other old school cool:

    James Brown

    Jerry Lee Lewis

    Ray Charles

I would be remiss if I failed to add:

    Freddie Mercury

He had a very rare voice of the highest quality.

My favorite oldie singer from the '80s is Laura Branigan. Sadly, she passed away early this century. She has such a unique voice and I love all her songs. I particularly like Gloria, How Am I Supposed to Live Without You, Ti Amo and many others. I also love to listen to Barry Manilow. His songs are so romantic. I love to listen to Mandy, I Write the Songs, Weekend in New England and many others.

I like Phil Collins from the 80's. I like his music more than I do Peter Gabriel's.

I'm a Barry Manilow fan as well - Weekend in New England has to be my favourite song of his. I'm also a big fan of Cliff Richard, The Everly Brothers, Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison, Buddy Holly, Marty Wilde - I could go on and on. These are real oldie singers from the 1950s and 1960s. Look up some of them on YouTube - you're in for a real treat.

Whitesnake was a great band back in the day.

I kind of like Edith Piaf. I was listening to her songs all the time when I was learning French. My favourite is Je ne regrette rien. It's quite optimistic :)

I also love music from old French musicals, especially the loveliest Demoiselles de Rochefort :smug:

Although this certainly isn't what you're looking for, but old singers:

    - Dick Todd

    - Helen Forrest

    - Doris Day

    - Tex Benequee

    - Bing Crosby

    - Fred Astaire (great singer too)

    - Louis Armstrong

    - Annie Ross

It's weird seeing music artists who had big hits in the 80's growing older and looking older.

Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass are one of my favorite oldie bands. Mostly instrumental but, their music is the perfect music for a civilized gathering; you know, my wife's friends. ;) No vocals means the only speaking in the room are the guests. Herb Alpert also made just the best damn Christmas song, ever.
