"Get your hands off of me!" I ripped my self from his grasp, but I didn't a chance to stand and size him up as the train jostled me off my feet and onto my knees. I still glared up at him. "She's as human as you are dammit! She deserves the same--"

"Doc! We got it!" someone yelled behind me. All eyes went to the front of the car. They'd smashed the glass open and gotten the door open from the other side. One of them had cut himself up all to hell in the process. I'd have to take a look at it later... if there was a later.

I paid the girl one last glance... in spite of how pissed this guy had made me. I had to go and try to help those that I could help. Hopefully I wasn't too late for the engineer.

I blasted out a breath and made my way to the conductor's cabin. But I knew with in the first couple of seconds that he was dead. They'd laid him out on the floor and his eyes stared back at me.

One of the guys that had been working on the door was searching for the emergency break. It took a moment, but he found it, but my eyes weren't on that. They were on the computerized display of the track... and how far we had before we ran out... and hit a wall... or... it didn't actually specify. But we didn't have very long and with the speed we were going, no chance in hell that the breaks would stop us in time.

I bolted out the door, back toward the cabin I'd come from. "To the back! Everybody get back!"

I was already moving towards the back, along with a few of the smarter passenger's. There was just no saving some people. Better just to focus on making it through the day yourself.

Did he just call me darling? I bit back a response - now was not the time to push the point. Instead, I pushed past him, making my way along with others towards the back...

Nothing else I can do here, I suppose. I thought as I meandered through the train, stopping at the second last carriage - stuff being in with the mob; I'll die comfortably, thanks. So, with some horrible end to the trip apparently approaching I seated myself, replaced my earphones and lowered myself into a bracing position.

I wonder what the wall - or lack thereof - at the end of the tracks is thinking... incredulous at my own thought process, I waited for the inevitable.

Only a few feet from the crowd, the floor beneath me shook and my legs were taken out. Someone had slammed the emergency brake. The sudden drop in speed had thrown me to the ground and I had to grunt at pain in my right elbow where it had slammed on the ground.

We were slowing... but not nearly fast enough. We'd still impact or derail or whatever in just a few moments. And after that it was anyone's guess what would happen to us.

I scrambled over to one of the poles in the car and latched onto it, a moment later the entire world shook, the lights fired out completely. I focused entirely on my hands, on hanging onto the pole no matter which direction my body went. Thunder blasted around us, joined with screams in a perfect cacophony. Bodies collided with each other and someone slammed right onto my fingers. I tightened my grip, even when I felt the pull of gravity on the opposite direction than I had been laying in. Even when the metal buckled and the clear shattering noise heralded a spray of glass against us.

    And then it all stopped.

No movement, no thunder, no screams. Just shocked silence in the dark.

    Michael:

Blinking slowly in the near pitch dark, I groaned faintly, pushing myself up slowly. The impact had lifted me up and thrown me over two rows of seats to crash into a third. Thankfully I hit it with my back and not my head. Though FUCK that hurt.

Picking myself up slowly, putting one hand on top of the seat to help pull myself up, I rolled my neck one way, then the other, flexing my arms and legs slowly to see if anything was broken. It felt like someone had started wailing on me with a baseball bat, but beyond a few god awful aches I was ... surprisingly okay.

Looking over the seat at the guy who had apparently followed me over, I saw some people weren't so lucky. This poor bastard had hit the seat head first and I knew necks weren't suppose to bend that way. Even then, the rather large split in his skull told me he wasn't getting back up again.

    "Sucks to be you."

Poetic? Nope. But certainly true. Besides, I didn't know the bastard. Just another unlucky SOB in life. Looking around, I saw quite a few others weren't lucky today either. And I couldn't quite stop myself from letting out a low whistle.

"Well ... this day has just been lovely ...."

Hearing a groan coming from the back, I turned my head to see the doc just picking himself up to. Walking back, stepping over some poor SOB who had come rolling down the aisle when we hit, leaving his hand still holding onto one of the poles, I grabbed him by the shoulder to help pull him up. Might still need him. Never know if you may have internal bleeding or some shit like that.

    "You break anything?"

Fuck. That was about the only word repeating in my head for the first... well, bit of time. The darkness was bad, but the fact that I couldn't hear a thing was worse. Disconcerting in the extreme. The first thing I did hear was the high pitched ringing that slowly faded out to the near silence of the train; coughing, groaning and other happy sounds mixed with sparks and the sound of metal being strained... and, oddly, music.

I though I must have just been imagining it, looking about as I struggled to my feet - it seemed the aching of my arms from bracing against the impact and the throbbing headache I had were about all I'd take from this... lucky, I guess. Shaking my head side to side, my eyes clenched shut, I tried to clear my head, only to have my earphones whip the sides of my face. Well, at least I know where the music is coming from, I thought as I placed the left plug into my ear. Time to get out of this fucking box.

With that I started toward the end of the near-empty carriage, not bothering to check for survivors - the paramedics could do that.

It took a few moments to get myself to release the pole. My hands seemed glued to the thing and when I finally did let go, it wobbled, clearly not such a steady hand hold after everything that had happened. It was amazing it hadn't ripped itself out of the floor.

One of the people from my original car addressed me and I was barely aware of what he was saying. I wouldn't have even known it was him except for the fact that other passengers that had gotten up were using their cell phones for lights. Crudely effective but given the circumstances it was the best we had.

"I'm..." I said and ran a mental checklist over all the different places that I hurt, nothing felt broken and nothing was bleeding badly. Mostly scraps and bruises. "I'm alright."

I fished into my pocket and pulled out my own cell phone. Not for a light but to call the hospital, no doubt they already knew but I could possibly find out who it was that being sent and give them some info before they got here.

    Damn.

Out of service... likely for everybody.

"Let's find the injured and get them..." I looked toward where a group was trying to work on getting the warped and broken door to open. "Get them out."

    Sam

    Ah shit...

It took me a moment to remember where I was. I must have blacked out for a few seconds. The splitting headache I had confirmed it. I slowly sat up, giving cause for the headache to worsen. I put my hand up and felt a small trickly of blood running down my face. Nothing serious. I must have crashed into one of the poles on impact.

All around me people were gathering themselves. Some where screaming in pain, others were standing and staring blankly, probably in shock. The doctor was calm, or as calm as one could be. He was ordering a group of people by the door to get the injured out. There was also a few lifeless bodies scattered here and there. The unlucky ones. Had we been in our original position then the death toll would have been higher. I was thankful for the doc's quick thinking, but now wasn't the time for praise, it was a time for action.

I stood up to help out, but then felt another pain. I looked down at my arm and seen a sharp shard of glass stuck into it. I sighed, before hesitantly pulling it out. I bit down on my tongue as it slowly and painfully slid out. The wound wasn't too deep, but I decided to put pressure on it just incase. I took off my shirt and ripped off a long section of fabric and wrapped it tightly around the wounded area. I still had a t-shirt on underneath. Then, once again, I turned my attention back to helping the others.

Across from me I seen a woman, about my age, staggering. I moved over to help and found she had a similar problem to me, except that the glass was in her thigh. "Doc!" I called out, "Hey doc!" I looked around. The doctor was busy, and hadn't heard me. "Damn it..." I muttered. "Alright sit down." I said to the woman. She did.

I didn't really know what I was doing here, but I couldn't just let her walk around with a shard of glass sticking out of her leg. "What's your name?" I asked.

"Katherine." She replied surprisingly calmly, "But just call me Kate." She gave a weak smile, wincing in pain at the same time.

"I'm Sam." I said as I gripped the glass. "Alright Kate this is going to hurt. I'm only after pulling one of these shards out of my arm. So it's best if you don't look, it'll only make the pain worse."

She nodded, and closed her eyes. I took a deep breath, before rapidly yanking the shard out. Kate let out an abrupt cry of pain, but quickly calmed herself again. I grabbed the remnants of my shirt a pulled off another section, wrapping it around her leg. She exhaled slowly, clearly the pain having gone down signifigantly, as it had done with me.

"Thanks..." She said as she pulled herself up. She tried walking, and found it much easier than before.

    "You good?"

"I'm good." She replied. "Now let's help the others."

latch ditch effort to get this going. I know everybody's busy but if you can just do one post a week then the story can really move.

    Moxley

It didn't take long for me to feel overwhelmed by the sheer amount of injured and dying. It seemed every couple of seconds there was someone yelling for a doctor or someone that had heard I was one and was rushing to me to help. I did my best to organize those around me to take some of the burden off but it wasn't really helping much.

Of course at the moment what I needed more than anything was a way out of the train and light to see what was going on.

It was clear that the car we were in right now wouldn't open. The doors were sealed and pressed shut. We were going to have to move ahead. Someone was tugging at my sleeve and I turned to them, almost cussing them out for being so insistant.

    "What?" I finally said.

"Um... you're the doctor right?" said a man, who despite looking older than me sounded almost like a child in his timid tone.

"For now," I replied. "After today I might retire."

"There's a commotion near what's left of the front of the train," He said. "Some injured girl is attacking other survivors. We think she might be on something."

I sighed and turned to the others that had been helping me. "Look for a way out and then find those that can move and get them away from the train. I'll be back to help in a moment."

As I made my way through the carriage I made a note to check each of the doors, giving each a rough yank to see if they'd open before moving on. I was barely paying attention when a man rushed passed me from the front, almost knocking me on my arse as he did. Seemed he had said something important though, as when he started back my way there were a few others with him--and they didn't exactly look excited.

Bad news, great. Eh. What the hell, I'll follow the crowd; the bad news might at least be interesting... or have a nice hole to climb out nearby.

So, as the others made their way passed me I tagged along just behind, humming softly with my music and wondering why I couldn't hear sirens yet...

    Re: Zombie Apocalypse

It was dark and there were people screaming and people shouting and I had no idea what the fuck was going on.

The train had stopped, but that had very little effect on the atmosphere. People were still panicking, regardless of whether or not they were injured. The general chaos was mind-numbing; for the sake of my sanity, I tuned it out.

    Ugh...

Slightly woozy and feeling rather bruised, I lay there between the rows of seats for a moment, listening to the pandemonium around me. After a few moments, my head had cleared enough for me to think (somewhat) coherently. Feeling in my bag for my phone, I pulled it out, hitting a random key so that the screen would light up. The sudden light seemed ridiculously bright in the darkness; I blinked a few times until my eyes adjusted.

Sitting up and using my phone as a makeshift torch, I shone it around me. I was only a few chairs into the row - it hurt too much to stand up at the moment, so I settled for pocketing my phone and feeling around blindly as I half crawled, half limped out of my hiding place...

... and straight into the path of a middle aged, dark haired man hurrying through the aisle.

OOC: Sorry for meh post, just trying to get this back up.

ooc: 36 is middle age? either I'm getting older or everyone else is getting younger... ;)

"Watch out," I grabbed the girls shoulders just before we collided. Given the general pandemonium on the train it was a miracle that I wasn't tripping over a whole lot more people. But at least I could avoid knocking someone over if it could be avoided.

I rotated to the side so we could get by one another. It was dark so it was hard to tell, but I thought that she was one of the faces I'd seen back in the coach I had sat in before the crash. My eyes went to a small gash on her forehead. It wasn't bad but every cut and bruise seemed to be calling out for me to turn my attention to it.

The man that had found me tugged on my coat sleeve slightly and forced my attention to the task at hand. I nodded and looked back to the girl as I walked. "Get that covered and get off the train as soon as possible, the paramedics can give you a bandage when they arrive.

I turned my eyes forward and forced the to only stay forward. If I looked around I didn't like what I saw. Dead, dying, and wounded. Why were the first responders not here yet? A subway train had just crashed, you'd think that would send them running.

We came to the coach that I had been seated in, the doors were bent out of shape and pressed shut. A small crowd was gathered around it. I pushed through and gazed into the window. Inside was pure darkness. I scratched my head and looked to the man that had brought me.

"We saw the girl going after the others in the coach, they looked terrified," he explained. "Then I went and got you."

I nodded and capped my hands over my brow to try and get a better view of the inside of the coach. Someone offered me a cell phone to use as a light. I took it with one hand and held it up. The instant I did the air was rent by a hoarse scream and a small, bloody form smashed against the window.

In spite of myself I stumbled back, crashing into those behind me. "What the hell was that?" I breathed.

"You're the doctor," someone said. "You tell us."

    Re: Zombie Apocalypse

OOC: It was dark. That's my excuse. =P

"Watch out." he said, grabbing my shoulder so that we wouldn't collide. Groggy as I was, I recognised the voice but took a few moments to place it - it was the guy from before. "Get that covered and get off the train as soon as possible, the paramedics can give you a bandage when they arrive." He said, before walking away.

Somewhat stunned, I only looked on after him. "Um... sure..." I answered belatedly, realising only after I'd said it that he'd never hear me over all the other noise.

I decided that standing in the aisle only meant that I was in the way of others, so I took a few steps back, half tripping over my feet as I did so. As I did so, I put a hand up to my head... and felt blood. I hadn't even noticed that I'd cut myself. With some effort, I ripped off part of the sleeve of my shirt to make a makeshift bandage, gently wiping off as much of the blood as possible. At the time, I had just had a general idea to try and clean the wound a little - pity I didn't actually put much thought into it. I ended up wiping off the half-forming scab and the wound started bleeding again, albeit a little more sluggishly.

Slightly frustrated, I gave up. My brain was obviously not working.

He said something about paramedics. I thought, instantly deciding that in my dazed state it would be better to take his advice and try and get out of this hellhole. Pulling out my phone again, I shone the (ridiculously bright) light around me, trying to work out the quickest way to get to the door without getting crushed by the crowd.

I'd dropped back from the group somewhat, checking the doors and windows and anything else that looked like it had a chance of being a way out on my way. As I made my way forward, I suddenly found my eyes somewhat startled by the stupidly bright screen of someone's phone being pointed directly into my eyes. Apparently the silhouette behind it hadn't expected anyone to be there as it jumped back a step as I swore at the rapid contraction of my irises.

    Re: Zombie Apocalypse

As I turned, shining the light around me, someone's head suddenly materialised out of the darkness, their nose just inches away from the screen of my phone.

    "Argh!"

I jumped back, whacking into the row of chairs behind me hard. The light swung around wildly as I dropped the phone - too late, I made a grab for it and succeeded only in banging my elbow against the bloody chairs. I bit back a string of swearwords, before realising that the other guy probably didn't care, seeing as he was letting out a string of his own.

In a way, it was a good thing he was still swearing - I could barely pick out his silhouette now that it was dark again.

I crouched down, taking care not to whack any of my limbs again. In the darkness, my phone stood out even though it was facedown. Thank god the screen light hadn't turned off yet. I grabbed it, my fingers closing around it-

"Fuck!" I pulled back my hand quickly, fumbling as I belatedly tried not to drop the phone again.

Somehow, I managed to keep it in my right hand. Grabbing it with my other hand as I straightened, I pointed the screen towards my right hand, and a moment after the wound came into view, I pointed it at the ground. A smattering of glass shards shone back up at me and I winced, suddenly all too aware of how lucky I'd been not to cut myself making my way out of the aisle before.

Pity I hadn't been so lucky this time. The cut on the back of my hand was stinging painfully and I swore again, just because that was pretty much the only thing I could do. I had nothing to clean it with. I brought the phone closer, trying to see if there was any glass in the wound. It looked clean enough to me, so I decided to just leave it and wait for the blood to dry...

It still hurt like hell though.

Swinging the phone up again, I shone it around, giving the person from before another blast of light in the eyes. This time I didn't flinch away, though.

"What the hell were you doing?!" I asked angrily, shooting him a glare that he couldn't see because I'd just blinded him with my phone.

I took a breath that I only just realized that I had been holding and found that I had to gulp it down. I could still here that person... on the other side of the door. A low throaty growl or a moan. The walls echoed knocks made against the doors as he/she tried to get into this compartment.

I retrieved the phone that had been dropped on the floor and stepped back up to the door. Now that I knew what waited I wasn't going to be caught so off guard if this person smashed against the glass again. I breathed deep again and called out.

"Hello in there..." the sounds ceased the instant I spoke. "Can you hear me? I'm a doctor. I can help you but you need to tell me whats wrong and you need to calm down. Do you understand me?"

There was no answer and I stepped closer. "Hello?"

The scream came again and the face slammed against the glass again, I flinched but didn't jump back. A feminine face, covered in blood, pressed itself against the glass. Her eyes seemed to have lost all their color and she howled as if each breath was agony. I narrowed my eyes as something looked familiar...

And then it hit me. I knew this girl! It was the girl that had died just before the train had crashed! This... this wasn't possible! I'd seen her die! I'd tried to revive her! She'd overdosed on something! Yet she was shrieking and wailing and crashing against door like a madwoman.

And she was covered in blood. Some of it was obviously hers but there was way too much to have all come from her. And there seemed to be a lot smeared around her jaw. I peered past her, in the dork I could see glimpses of corpses. Victims of the crash I thought at first, but with occasional flickers from the overhead lamps I could make out bloody necks that had been ripped apart. My eyes settled on the girl again.

"Good god..." I whispered. "She killed them!"
