i5 3rd gen or 5th gen

I have an option in setting up a new gaming pc on a tight budget so which of the two processers should i get into my pc and what would be gained or lost when selecting one of the two processers

i5 are great gaming cpu, but i would go with a newer generation if possible.

i3 is great for workstations that aren't doing heavy cpu stuff, i5 is that but also great for gaming. At least, that's how I see it.
