I don't know that I have favourite films. But the first five really good ones that come to mind in no particular order are:

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy

An excellent film all round, if you've a head for names and details - which I do. But the acting is .... There's this one scene, about halfway through I'd guess, where Smiley is rather run down - got the guy who's working with him in his flat - they're having a drink together. He gets to talking about meeting his counterpart from the SU. That's the best acting I've seen out of anything recently.

That earns it a place in the top 5 for me.

The Maltese Falcon.

The dialogue in this is brilliant. It's nice not to see a man playing a clueless sap for a change too.

Sam Spade: All we've got is that maybe you love me and maybe I love you.

Brigid O'Shaughnessy: You know whether you love me or not.

Sam Spade: Maybe I do. I'll have some rotten nights after I've sent you over, but that'll pass.

- The Maltese Falcon

Blade Runner

I actually read the book first in this case, only seeing the film in something like 2007. Its more the world than the acting in this case - though there is some good acting there. The sense of atmosphere is incredible.

Lord of The Rings

Just a fun fantasy epic.

Road to Perdition

Very good gangster film. The acting by the shitbag's father is fantastic.

The first time I saw Ace Ventura, Pet Detective (with Jim Carrey), I thought it was too foolish. But the second time I saw it, I was in the mood for a silly movie. Hence, I enjoyed it much more, and it became one of my favorites.

^nice list. imo all of those actors get shit on unfairly a lot of the time, when in fact they're all pretty versatile. In Cage's case he just wants to be an action star when he should be sticking to the sort of roles that made him famous in the first place. His performance in Bad Lieutenant was exceptional, finest bit of acting I've seen in a while.

For me the following are some of my favorites, since it's impossible for me to narrow it down to just five. I like movies, sue me :p

A Fish Called Wanda: Amazing script, great writing, terrific cast. One of the funniest movies I've seen ever.

The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly: The cinematography alone is reason enough, but combined with the music and the first class acting of Eastwood, Wallach, and Van Cleef it's probably my favorite flick of all time.

In Bruges: Well written and with likable characters portrayed by exceptional actors. A very dark comedy, and it also has one of the greatest comebacks ever supplied by the always entertaining Ralph Fiennes.

Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang: Very underrated film, Robert Downey Jr. and Val Kilmer both do a terrific job in this neo-noir. Great chemistry between the leads.

Star Wars ep. IV: The Empire Strikes Back: Do I really need a reason?

Here
Today I would go with;
That sums me up! Today's favourites are not necessarily going to be my favourites tomorrow.. but, like you, usually somewhere in the list you will find The Crow and The Lost Boys.

Currently on the list with those two is Deadpool , The Dark Knight (because.. Heath Ledger) and Bram Stoker's Dracula (Gary Oldman... )

(I do love The King and I, though, I gotta admit.)
