[XenForo Styling] Header/Navigation Area, How to make it unique?

Almost every XenForo style I've seen always has the same navigation/header LAYOUT. How do you make this unique on your site? For example here on XenFans there is different tabs to the norm.

Another good example is Erik Swan's Flexile theme, where he removed the background for the top area of the navigation bar..

it gets boring seeing so many XenForo boards who use the same header/navigation layout. How have you made this different on your site? What would you suggest to make it different?

I quite like the navigation / header layout. Although I don't think many people are going to make any major adjustments until the stable release just incase something changes, even if it is very doubtful lol.

I also like the look and feel of the navigation, but agree things feel too repetitive when every board uses the same layout. I'm hoping that with gold more styles will emerge and/or I find the time to make my own.
