Board owners constantly run into this question, and I get asked at least once a day how I deal with customizations. And frequently enough how I deal with upgrading a customized board; Template / Source Code, or otherwise.

First tip: Back up .. Let me repeat that: Back ... everything .. up.

Those of you that have made changes to templates, css or even source code, how do you deal with the upgrade process? Obviously you do not want to overwrite your work but you also don't want to go through each modified template and spend your afternoon reverting and re-applying everything.

My second tip is: Document your customizations, offline. No use putting it in a private thread on the board - when the board doesn't work that will become useless.

Note down the source of where you downloaded or got the code from, get an archived copy of that and name it properly. And if you customized that, make an archive of your customized version.
