Dear visitor,

The forum product XenForo has been released on October the 5th 2010 as a beta and we've been alpha and beta testing it in 2010 and really enjoy it. And are now using it live in 2011 on our sites.

The XenForo.com site is taking shape really well and has build an amazing 150,000+ post community in a short period of time with information, resources, and support.

XenFans is a XenForo enthusiast site where we offer our own products, services, and resources; Such as convert and installation services, styles and product listing, as well as custom written user and moderator guides. We're writing unique articles, do interviews and prepare for a lot more. 2011 is going to be an exciting year for our team and our members.

Of course we will have some overlap with XenForo, but we are very well aware that we are not XenForo, we're our own space, and sit on top of XenForo - helping and sharing where we can. We cover admin topics such as community management, system administration, or how to help and organize users, and whatever else we want. We will have tools available such as a signature builder admin demo, xenforo addons, and a lot more.

During the last six months we've been on-line already with a blog and we had our first handful of newsletters to our early adopter XenFans members. Published here: http://xenfans.com/threads/newsletters-2010.122/ (Archive: Newsletters 2010)

I hereby kindly and honestly invite you to go through your account. We have options for 'receive site emails?' which is set to Yes by default. Leave it at Yes if you want to receive our monthly newsletter, and change it to No if not.

The newsletters will keep you up to date about what goes on in the XenForo universe, with focus on the content at XenFans.com - we hope you subscribe.

The 2011 newsletters can be expected once a month. And we will publish the on-line version in this thread.

We are very excited about the XenForo product and our XenFans site, and we thank you very much for browsing the site, signing up, posting and participating, and some of you are even contributing your knowledge and resources. Keep up the good work, it's very much appreciated.

XenFans Newsletter January 2011

Hello and thank you for participating on http://xenfans.com

You're receiving this monthly newsletter because you've selected in your options to get site mailings. You can change this at any time by going here: http://xenfans.com/account/privacy

Our community has grown in the last few months, our current statistics are over 400 discussions and over 2,750 messages made by more than 325 members.

In this months newsletter we want to invite you to consider a donation to our network. After 10+ years of running and building communities, and never asking for support, it's time to make an exception and invite you, our members, to consider giving me a donation between $9 and $99 (whatever you're comfortable with). My hosting bill for 2011 is pending and comes out of my own pocket. This has been a problem in the past but one I've overcome. So far.

This year it's a bit harder than expected. And so, for the month January a header link to our account upgrade page will be visible. http://xenfans.com/account/upgrades

Please use our account upgrades page; You will show as a donating member, some donations will be compensated with additional account upgrades, which will expire July 1st, 2011 (or existing months extended). If you're more comfortable with an anonymous donation feel free to send it directly to mrfloris@gmail.com.

I'm very happy with our member base, the content we all created, and the activity to the web site. And I hope we can continue this in 2011. The full information thread can be found here: http://xenfans.com/threads/a-request-for-a-donation.414/

This will be the only time this year I will be asking for a donation, thank you for understanding.

The February Valentine newsletter will focus on the content created by members - stay tuned :)

XenFans Newsletter May 2011 - Spring Cleaning

Hello members and thank you for being part of our community at http://xenfans.com

You can receive this monthly newsletter by selecting to receive site-mailings in your account options at any time by going here: http://xenfans.com/account/privacy

Our community has grown in the last few months, our current statistics are over 825+ discussions and over 5,900+ messages, made by more than 700+ members.

In this months newsletter we want to inform you about some XenFans.com site changes.

Now. Let's get started :)

# XenFans.com Spring Cleaning

A great six months it has been with fast growing XenForo communities, including ours, and we have learned a lot about the forum software. Explored a lot of features. Reported a lot of bugs. Converted a lot of sites. And made a lot of great new friends. XenFans.com has been, and is still, very happy to help out newcomers and everybody else with the XenForo products and services.

The focus the first six months has been on XenForo news, and helping everybody getting started, getting converted, and giving help. From a news blog, to help site, to what we feel is now a wonderful community.

From June on we are putting focus on the community, rather than on the help. We enjoy sharing content and talking about XenForo. And there is more we can do. A few examples are discussions about your board administration and management, and moderator or policy writing, etc. A spot where board users can get together and learn from each other, share their experiences, and discuss not just XenForo, but also improve 'running their board' and discuss common matters.

This shift in focus comes with a few changes. Some mentioned below.

We have extended the Premium account holders from 6 months to the last day of the year, at no cost. And we're going to disable the ability near the end of June to upgrade to the Premium account (at most we will once a month give an account upgrade away). We will continue to share our knowledge to our premium members as scheduled. Effectively changing this category to more of an exclusive club.

The Marketplace / Job-board will become part of the Exclusive club.

Another change is that we will outsource the converts to one of our team members, outside of XenFans.com - we've worked together on many converts and he has the training, experience and customer satisfaction that we believe is required to do a good job. More about this in June on our news forum. No existing user data is transferred over. This will apply for new requests only, not existing converts.

Part of our Spring cleaning also includes pruning accounts that have signed up early, but haven't participated in discussions. Users are always free to register again, but our policy from 2011 on is to show active and participating users, rather than idle account statistics.

During the last six months of 2011 the XenFans.com resources as we make them, have made them, or if we get requests for them, will be shared transparently with the community. This could include the welcome block, the user bar, the plugins that we use, or other code/design elements that users might be interested in. We've made a great start, shared documentation, resources, links, and help beyond what was reasonable, and it's time to extend that to our members.

We're excited about XenForo, and about XenFans. We've had a great first six months and we're looking forward in the next six months to having some great discussions with you about xenforo, and your own community.

The June newsletter will focus on Some Cool XenForo Software Features and Socializing. Stay tuned.

Want to have more conversations? Invite your staff members, your friends or twitter / facebook followers to sign up on XenFans.com.

XenFans Newsletter June 2011 - A Community for Communities

Hello members and thank you for being part of our community at http://xenfans.com

You can receive this monthly newsletter by selecting to receive site-mailings in your account options at any time by going here: http://xenfans.com/account/privacy

Our community has grown in the last few months, our current statistics are over 900+ discussions and over 6,680+ messages, made by more than 780+ members - please be aware that we prune inactive accounts with 0 posts.

In this months newsletter we want to inform you about some service changes, socializing, and we want to point you out some of our great content.

Now. Let's get started :)

# XenForo Services via a Team Member

We have been helping for a while now to get users moved from IP.Board, MyBB, phpBB, vBulletin, and other outdated forum products, to what we believe is a fresh, more modern forum product that's ready for the future. Our team members have helped from the start, including Mikey, and he's taking over the convert requests that we receive on xenfans.com on a dedicated xenforo services site, http://xfservices.com

If you request a convert via xenfans.com, we will direct you to Mikey, and ask a base price of $9 - which will be a donation to xenfans.com to help keep the site running.

# Socializing on XenFans and Online Networks

Being part of a community is always more fun if you know the people on it. Having your friends on XenFans, or getting to know new people will make for a more fun experience.

How you can help!

We hereby invite you to let your friends know, socialize about our site via sites such as twitter, facebook, instagram, forum signatures or simply word of mouth.

Your forum team members, your friends on Skype / MSN might be interested in starting their own site, or talking to you about how to operate a community - or have more in-depth discussions about dealing with features, bugs, or misbehaving members. New or existing conversations will be a lot more fun, please do give them a poke and tell them about our site.

# XenForo Status Updates (feature discussion)

A controversial discussion created by Mikey made us think about a popular, but still somewhat neglected feature, the status updates. This is what Mikey said and got us all thinking:

"Are XenForo status updates as a feature on the whole a neglected one? Sure it's a cool feature but I don't think that forum users use it as religiously as they do on facebook and twitter, and why should they?"

http://xenfans.com/threads/423/

Finding or writing good content is always difficult, for any community. But it does happen, and our team members feel it's worth pointing out. Please take a look and participate.

The July newsletter will focus on summer themes and (breaking) news about XenForo 1.1.
Stay tuned.

In this months newsletter we want to inform you about XenForo 1.1, Summer Styles, and we want to point you out some of our great content.

Now. Let's get started :)

# Rapid XenForo Development: 1.1

Remember last year? October 5th, 2010 - version 1.0 was ready to go on sale and ready for installation by the public. Suddenly it's already July 2011 and it is clear that the developers of XenForo Limited (http://xenfans.com/threads/134/) are not slowing down. Maintenance releases are being published frequently enough that address customer reported feedback. http://xenfans.com/threads/1195/ (1.0.4 is out!)

And already a major update is around the corner and we believe it's almost ready to be rolled out on the xenforo.com community at the end of the summer. Version 1.1 is the first step to maturing this newcomer to the BBS market.

We're discussing and sharing what 1.1 is all about and help you get ready for an upgrade. There are some important questions and we're trying to answer them. Please join the discussion: http://xenfans.com/threads/1207/

# Interesting XenFans.com Discussions

We have a lot of great discussions, some of our most popular ones can be found here:
http://xenfans.com/popular/

Some content from recent months we like to point:
[Article] XenForo Style System --- http://xenfans.com/threads/1141/
[Product] XenForo Trading System --- http://xenfans.com/threads/1112/
[Open Discussion] Handling Forum Spam --- http://xenfans.com/threads/693/

Share something yourself by starting a discussion about XenForo here:http://xenfans.com/forums/general-chat/create-thread

# Summer Themes

Please don't forget to do what we've been doing at XenFans.com - customize your existing themes to keep your site interesting and fun for your members. Add images that celebrate the summer to the threads, icons, footer and header images. As you could do with holidays, seasons, or special events. Our open discussion can be joined here: http://xenfans.com/threads/1209/

The August newsletter will focus on Community Management and (advanced) XenForo Styles - please contact us if you want to get your styling-site mentioned in our next newsletter.

# Styling XenForo

One of the frequently asked questions at the XenFans inbox is information about how to customize XenForo and where to find styles. We've asked our community members (you guys!) to submit your guides and styles, we've created our own articles and styles, and we're close to our friends who make and share styles. Below is a list to help you find great resources:

Styles and Articles by ...

- XenFans.com
Guides, Articles, Tips & Tricks, including a three part 'xenforo styling system' written by Steve for XenFans @ http://xenfans.com/forums/learn/
A free style created by Angel for XenFans, the Simply Blue style @ http://xenfans.com/threads/style-xenfans-com-simply-blue.710/

Pank & Miko @ http://themesinc.com/

XenFocus @ http://www.xenfocus.com/

There are many more, and they're all publishing or advertising their styles on xenforo.com and of course xenfans.com.

If you made a free style and want to share it on our site you can submit it here: http://xenfans.com/forums/styles/create-thread

# Managing Your Community

I've written a long and in-depth article about my assertion of being a community manager, to consider getting one for your community, and what a CM could mean for you.
http://xenfans.com/threads/article-community-manager-reconsidered.1343/

Our site has more discussions about how to operate and manage a community. And if you have tips, or perhaps a question - we've got the forum to discuss it.

In this month's newsletter we talk about managing and operating a community.

Now let's get started :)

# Community Management

Starting a site and waiting for visitors and friends to browse it, sign up and create starting discussions is one thing. But there's a lot more involved with running and operating a site. We have a sub-forum for community management and here are some interesting topics that might help you better operate your site (or perhaps you have some opinions or tips you could share with us)

- Staff members on your site. http://xenfans.com/threads/686/
A question about which type of groups your team consists of.

- Content is king, but how should it be managed? http://xenfans.com/threads/148/
A checklist to help guide a site owner on how to create content that's king.

- Paid staff members? http://xenfans.com/threads/679/
An open discussion about the value of hiring dedicated team members.

- Writing Disclaimers http://xenfans.com/threads/699/
Opinion sharing about the importance of disclaimers and where to start.

- Community Manager Reconsidered http://xenfans.com/threads/1343/
A long article that gives site owners a new look at the value of assigning / hiring a community manager.

- Continuously prompting members to join http://xenfans.com/threads/1309/
Open discussion about the importance of critical mass to achieve a successful community.

More discussions about how to manage and operate a community:http://xenfans.com/forums/manage-community/

XenFans Newsletter November 2011 - Seasonal Styles

Hello members and thank you for being part of our community at http://xenfans.com

You can receive this monthly newsletter by selecting to receive site-mailings in your account options by going here: http://xenfans.com/account/privacy

Our community has grown in the last few months. Our current statistics reflect over 1,350+ discussions, over 10,500+ messages, and participation by more than 1,225+ members.

In this month's newsletter we let you know about XenForo Styles for the Seasons.

Now let's get started :)

# Seasonal Styles.

Some active users might have noticed we published a simple but fun Halloween '11 style as a free for download to all our registered members. And we had some great feedback.

Including the question to make one for Thanksgiving '11, so hereby I let you know that we will do our best to have one ready around the 20th of November.

After the Thanksgiving style we will focus on our Christmas '11 style for a December release. So keep your eyes open on the forums.

Resources:
- Halloween '11 Style: http://xenfans.com/threads/style-xenfans-com-halloween-11.1565/
- Thanksgiving '11 Style: http://xenfans.com/threads/style-xenfans-com-thanksgiving-11.1632/
- Christmas '11 Style: http://xenfans.com/threads/style-xenfans-com-christmas-11.1633/

We try to make the styles for 1.1.0 beta 5 and up, and the base will be the xenfans-theme. With a season theme on top. Ready to be used as a child style to your existing themes, this way it will match your community's custom look and feel.

# Come participate.

Beta 5 of XenForo 1.1.0 has been released, and we're looking for some great discussions. Com share your opinion in our news: http://xenfans.com/threads/xenforo-1-1-beta-releases.1552/

XenFans Newsletter December 2011 - Seasons Greetings

Hello members and thank you for being part of our community at http://xenfans.com

You can receive this monthly newsletter by selecting to receive site-mailings in your account options by going here: http://xenfans.com/account/privacy

Our community has grown in the last few months. Our current statistics reflect over 1,560+ discussions, over 11,430+ messages, and participation by more than 1,375+ members.

In this month's newsletter we want to say Happy Holidays.

Now let's get started :)

# Happy Holidays

In January we started with our monthly newsletters, and now it's already the last month of the year. And we had a blast this year with XenFans.com, thanks to XenForo. The product matured from beta to stable for both version 1.0 and 1.1, and we've been writing guides, articles, announcements and had interviews with players in the forum market.

Our members (like you) have contributed to this in a wonderful way. Thank you so much. W're looking forward to your great discussions about communities, managing them, and the XenForo universe in 2012 as well.

We wish all the members of XenFans and XenForo Happy Holidays, enjoy spending time with your family and your friends.
