Here is what I did.

-main URL at xyz.com

-I created a sub folder 'forum' & made xenforo installation. Now forum accessible at xyz.com/forum

-enabled SEO friendly URLs.

-Now created categories & forums. But URLs are like this :

xyz.com/forum/forums/test-section...

why so ? I want xyz.com/forum/test-section.

Thank you :D

The path is /forums/ and /threads/ and /pages/

If you make a directory forums/ you will get:

forums/threads/
forums/pages/
forums/forums/

Hence why many do it in the root of the site, or under community/

and yeah, have installed xen porta also. So left blank Home URL in Basic Board Information. And Board URL is set to xyz.com/forum. Because it was looking like this :

HygU6.jpg

Xen Porta Settings :
Uncheked : Set as Index Controller

Checked :

Standardize Index Sidebar

Standardize Forum Sidebar

Enable Custom Article View

Installed it under public_html/
set url to the .com

installed it under public_html/community/
set url to .com/community

xenforo will add /forums/ and threads/ etc on its own
they're just mod_rewrite urls when friendly urls is turned on
the dirs dont actually exist, they're a path/route.

Oh I got it where I made mistake. I think first I have to create subdomain from cpanel right ?

current installation is :
public_html/xyz.com/forum

so what I have to do is create one subdomain under cPanel or just create a folder in public_html, forum & install it ?

so the structure should be :
public_html :
-forum
-xyz.com

and so that it will be xyz.com/forum ? hope I am clear this time...

I don't understand why you need to make a sub domain.

domain is:
example.com

subdomains is:
something.example.com

If you make forum/ and put xenforo inside it, you get: forum/forums/ and forum/threads/ etc.

Let's ask this:

When I go to your web site, how does the address look like completely, and where do you want xenforo to be?
Do you want xenforo to be the first thing they see, or do you have another product like a frontpage that isn't xenforo, or a wordpress etc?

On xenfans I have put xenforo in the main directory for my public html files, So the content of upload/* inside public_html/

And xenfans.com is where it's at, and forums are under /forums (created by xenforo) and threads under threads/ *created by xenforo again,.. etc.

On XeNForo they have a frontpage, where the customers can buy it and get support, they put upload/* inside community/* and get:

xenforo.com/community/forums/ and xenforo.com/community/forums/

the forums/ threads/ pages/ etc is done by xenforo's package, you don't make those dirs.

1.) move your forum files to the root (eliminate the forum folder) Basically move your files one level UP.
2.) edit setting in admincp -> basic board information ->home page URL (leave blank). This will get rid of that extra tab on your navbar.
3) edit setting in admincp -> basic board information ->Board URL http://www.xyz.com instead of http://www.xyz/forum
4) Turn on friendly URLs (this will append the 'forum' to your urls to make it look as though your forum is in a subdirectory.

Xenporta will take care of the rest.
