Would it be a good idea for me to get NVMe or SATA SSD?

The NVMe interface is much quicker than SATA, and it permits critical speed upgrades. Internal drives should really be nvme, especially the drives where the OS resides on.
If you're a creative user, having your project files on a hardware raid 2x nvme combo, and a lot of memory for even faster caches and scratch disks, you really notice the difference.

But generally computers with nvme boot disk have an affordable solution even at 256gb and then the rest on sata3 adapters.

I have a few usb-c ports through my thunderbolt 3 in the back of the iMac, and internal sata 3 ssd still do 250 to 500 mb read/write, (yay buffers/caching). Which helps extend the iMac significantly.

Having any SSD generally improves performance on slower systems a bit, over regular old hdd drives.

Check that your motherboard supports NVMe first. I think the difference is fairly negligible if you're coming from an HDD, an SSD would be an upgrade regardless.

I guess this entirely depends on the other accessories of your machine. I have a SATA SSD, and I can't complain, it has been working fine for me. Although i wouldn't say am a heavy user. But for gaming, maybe it will be very important to consider NVMe.
