Does anyone know a lot of about cameras?

I would like to get a new DSLR camera (mine is very, very old!) but I am not sure where to start looking because there are sooooo many on the market these days! I know I want to stick to a budget of under 600 and I would like the screen to be rotational but outside of that, I don't know what other features I am after. Can anyone recommend some solid DSLR cameras in the 400 to 600 range?

I think it's not very hard to choose, especially if you already have a fixed budget
As far as DSLRs are concerned you can pick:

1. Nikon D3500.
2. Canon EOS Rebel T8i / Canon EOS 850D. ...
3. Nikon D5600.
4. Canon EOS 80D.
5. Canon EOS Rebel SL3 / 250D / 200D Mark II.
6. Canon EOS Rebel T7 / EOS 2000D / EOS 1500D.
7. Canon EOS 90D.
8. Canon EOS Rebel T100 / EOS 4000D / EOS 3000D.
9. ...endless

the list is endless you can however choose the best one that suits your needs based on many options such as

1. Image quality that's preferably better than your phone camera otherwise why would I need to buy one.
2. Ergonomics because you're probably going to use that in all your trips it just has to be fit.
3. The size available in different sizes, just pick the one you like.
4. Features the camera has.
5. Availability of lenses based on your budget and future needs.
6. The latest model within your budget.

one final piece of advice, before you buy the camera check some reviews online & what people are saying about it.

Any Canon EOS with a good lense is a great starter point. Once you are familiar with it and have budget to invest again you can always expand on lenses and accessories that you need (lights, c-stand, tripod, battery packs, etc).

It is sometimes worth investigating which camera still re-sells pretty good so you can upgrade in the future a little easier. Quite a few good cameras hold up their value second hand.
