I present to you the first Sypex Dumper (Backup & Restore DB Tool) integration Add-on.
2wqv513.jpg
Key features, briefly

  • backup and restore of MySQL database without using third-party
    programs, just pure PHP;
  • work with databases of any size (ranging from a few kilobytes to
    thousands of megabytes); therefore all the work with the backup files is done
    via FTP, but it’s possible to use a download manager for downloading (Download Master, Reget, etc.);
  • impressive performance;
  • support for two formats, file compression (Gzip and Bzip2), as
    well as varying degrees of compression for GZip;
  • friendly Web 2.0 interface with AJAX;
  • work in several stages (to bypass the restrictions about time);
  • special file format with the meta-information;
  • MySQL service functions (check, optimize, repair);
  • works on Windows and Linux;
  • smart backup with post-processing;
  • smart work with encodings;
  • saving tasks for quick use;
  • automatic deletion of old files;
  • custom (user) authentication;
  • process control (stop/pause/continue);
  • the possibility for multiple users to work with one copy of the script;
  • occupies little memory during operation.

I've followed all the steps but all I get is this:

sypex.jpg

NOTE: I used the direct links in the first post which actually downloaded version 2.0.8. Not sure if that has anything to do with it...

Uninstalled, and reinstalled the version attached 2.0.7. The menu looks different (on a tab instead of in the tools menu) but same problem:

This is awesome, nice for when I have to do a quick snapshot backup before an update and don't want to mess with the command line. Nice release.

Will this add-on install on 1.1.0 beta 3?
any compatibility issue?

Works fine. I've used it with 1.03, 1.0.4, 1.1b1,2,3

Also, I use both versions of Sypex; 2.0.7 on my live board...2.0.8 on my dev board. Doesn't seem to be any difference that I can see. They both work fine.

Thanks dodgeboard, its really amazing, I still don't believe how fast it is.
Usually mysqldumper takes 5 to 6 minutes to backup 350 mb sql database and it took just 21 seconds.
Did you try restoring with it?

Make sure it has data, and not just the structure.

yes it has.
if you compare the gziped backup size:
mysqldumpers' : 47mb
Sypex Dumper 2 : 45mb
don't know why it has 2mb difference for the same db.

yep - restore works as easy and fast as the backup. Whenever I want to sync my dev install with my live install, I simply do a backup with one and a restore on the other...and viola, I'm sync'd. Takes about 2 min.

Sypex may be using a higher level of gzip compression. Some database backups also insert special commands, like "drop table". I would not be concerned with the minor difference in size.
