Audio Books

So I'm a member of audible.com.

Not sure what prompted me to sign up (probably some YouTuber promoting it), but I know that I have always loved books, and Audio Books are a great way to pass the time.

Plus I pick up books which I wouldnt usually pick up in the shops. I'm currently listening to The Last Kingdom series - which is 10 books long (and I'm on book 9, YIKES) and I love it. I know i may not have had the patience to read the actual series of books, plus it would have been a lot more expensive.

I finished the Wind On Fire trilogy in about 24 hours solid listening, which I wouldn't usually have done so fast if it were a book which I had to read.

Also, I can listen to the book on the way to and from work - which is a great way to take my mind off the boring commute.

I think because it's audio that it's passive, so there's very little barrier to entry.

Does anyone else "read" audiobooks? Got any recommendations for me?

It definitely has a kids section - and as it is an amazon service you can only buy the books through the website and not the audible app on the phone - so your kids would only be able to listen thru the app to books you've chosen for them.

I read a lot, but I really don't like audio books. I like to imagine the voices of the characters myself and I find that the narrators don't always fit with what I'm imagining and it pulls me out of the story.

Fair enough. That is a good point. For me personally listening to something because my eyes just don't work well, allows me to 'read' longer. But I love immersion into the story.With books, movies.. I agree that using your own fantasy for the voices etc makes it a personal immersive experience as well.

I love audible. Been a huge audible fan for years now. I listen (or "ear read" as I'm wont to say ) on the bus/tube/etc. Means I can enjoy books in a lot of places I wouldn't normally read, particularly because reading while taking transport gives me motion sickness.

At the moment I'm earreading The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August for my book club.

I have tried several time to listen to audio books but there's just something about sitting down with the written word. If I'm taking a long car trip though, books on CDs are a great companion.

I actually do it while I am coding, or walking for 45 minutes, or just cleaning the apartment. If I am in the train and I need to just do something for an hour I kinda half doze off, listening to an hour section.

See I am the opposite. I MUST have total concentration on the book otherwise i lose the story and get annoyed.

I've been listening to the Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone read by different people, it's free on Spotify, but they're not updated regularly, so you do have to wait for the next chapter.

It's a great idea just not for me.

I have been listening to some totally random audio book and i spent weeks on it. I finally finished it and deleted it from the app, I go here to this thread to post it and drawing a blank.. i can't find it now : PANIC
