Cheap Recipe - How to make fried rice

    This is one of my favorite recipes because of its simplicity and very low cost. This recipe is ideal for students or people who don't have much time on their hands and still want to eat healthily.

    Let's get started!

    Ingredients (dinner for 2):
    - 2 cups of rice
    - 1 carrot
    - 200g chicken filet (or 1 zucchini for vegetarians)
    - 1 onion
    - 100g peas
    - 2 eggs
    - 2 cloves of garlic
    - 1 spring onion
    - 3tbsp of sunflower or peanut oil
    - 5 tbsp of Ketjap manis (sweet soy sauce)
    - 2 tbsp of regular soy sauce
    - 1 tbsp of paprika powder
    - 1 tbsp of curry powder
    - pepper and salt


    Preparation:

    - STEP 1: We will start with boiling some water. The time it takes to cook the rice depends on the kind of rice you will be cooking. Make sure you check the appropriate time on the packaging. You can start cooking the rice once the water starts boiling. When it's done, put the rice on the side for now.

    - STEP 2: Next, we will start preparing the vegetables and the chicken. Simply cut the vegetables into 1/4 inch pieces. The same goes for the chicken filet but in slightly larger pieces of about 2 inches.

    - STEP 3: Crack the egg in a small glass and whisk it briefly with a fork. Put 1 tbsp of the oil in a large frying pan or wok and fry the egg. Once the egg is fried, take it out of the pan and set it aside.

    - STEP 4: Pour the rest of the oil in the same pan or wok. We will fry the carrot (and zucchini) first. When about 1 minute has passed, put the pieces of onion and garlic in the pan. We will wait another minute before we pour the peas in our mixture. Make sure you stir frequently.

    - STEP 5: This is where we start seasoning our dish. Add the paprika powder, curry powder, salt and pepper to the pan. (You can add more spices if you like it to be spicier)

    - STEP 6: You can add the Ketjap manis, soy sauce, rice and the egg once everything is nearly done (you can check this by poking one of the pieces of carrot with a fork. It needs to be tender on the outside and still firm on the inside).

    - STEP 7: The final step is to turn off the heat and add the pieces of spring onion to the dish.


    Once you have completed these steps, you can start enjoying this simple but delicious dish.

    TIP: You can also try to poach the egg instead. Simply add the poached egg on the dish, right before serving.
