Yep, a twelve hour event this weekend, and it already happened.
We had a 3,5 hour live stream event from building the server from scratch, configuring things and running it live.
It's quite boring if you're not into minecraft, but we are right? So it was fun to get some viewers and from those viewers a few players.
I made a new vanilla mc server for survival and we simply got some resources, mined for a bit, and build a little area we called our base. Another player joined and helped out. And another one..
We ended up terraforming the place, getting more resources, sharing what we have and having fun playing survival mode only, vanilla. Even 1MBNetwork showed up for an hour or two.

It was on 1moreblock.com on port 55565, if you want to check it out, we're at x 320 and z 190.
If you can't connect, then the server is down and the base area moved to the main -live- survival server. You can view everything then at /warp vanillabuilds (warp expires in a week).
My current playtime is over 10 hours (with a few breaks), but .. there's about an hour left before I log out.

You can do it too though. It just needs a bit of experience. Make a nice base, build a foundation around it. Place some stuff inside - adjust shape and foundation to get the right space. Then finish things with some decorations outside and inside and you already have a few days of fun gaming. Then over the next few weeks you tweak it as you get more resources and ideas.
