Soooo Abbs is hitting secondary school this year and we have been talking about subjects she might enjoy. This got me thinking...

What did you like at school?

What did you hate?

What were your subjects that you passed your exams in?

Do you remember your grades?

What were your exams called?

I hated school!

However she should get to try out a few new things before having to worry about subjects, although if she already has a career idea then she can see what subjects she could take in the future that will go towards that

Kids have to learn that high school and college are a great way not to just pass or fail, but to figure out what they like and don't like - and narrow it down towards a career that fits with that path. It's why they're super confused during high school and try a million things, and why they change major in college a few times until they got it nailed down.

Maybe when she's taken classes in each and other subjects she'll like something else better, but good for knowing the options already.

CREATIVE iMEDIA Why choose Creative iMedia? Many students develop an early interest in designing for the screen by creating digital images. The aim of this new course is to take a closer look at a range of digital media and to develop a critical understanding of the design process when creating projects for different audiences. This course is an ideal grounding for those wishing to develop practical design skills while gaining an insight into the role it plays in today’s digital media industry. Careers leading from taking this course are graphic design, web design, instructional design, 2D/3D design, animation and video / TV production. What will you study on the course? Students will learn about the pre-production process by planning a creative digital media product to suit a client brief. Students will conduct some independent research to write a detailed report on where and how digital graphics are displayed in print and on the screen. This course will look at the difference between raster and vector images, file types, image compression, version control and copyright implications. Further works include storyboarding ideas, using specialist hardware and software to bring an idea to life. Students will build their knowledge on how to manage a professional project from start to finish. This course will help students develop valuable skills such as working towards deadlines from pre-production to the creation stage, building upon practical software skills such as Photoshop, Dreamweaver and Premier. Students will understand the importance of reviewing and making improvements to the final product before it is submitted to the client. The course consists of four units:  Creating digital graphics  Storytelling with a comic strip  External exam  Digital video sequence which introduce students to the key ideas behind creative media to prepare them for the exam, and in creating projects for the media industry. How will the course be taught? Students are taught in mixed ability classes with no more than 25 students in each class. There is an early emphasis on understanding the key aspects of the Creative iMedia course such as the preproduction process through to the evaluation of a product. Whilst the tasks are structured, students will need to develop research skills and show creative initiative when carrying out the assessments. They will need to be able to work independently and meet deadlines. How will the course be assessed? The qualification is made up of controlled assessments, all internally assessed in school and then moderated by an external examiner. There is also a 1 hour 15-minute external exam. This exam is worth 25% of the overall qualification

It all sounds pretty awesome :) Well, if she needs any help with the creative stuff, or media, feel free to just ask - if I don't know: I will say, and if I can help and have the time: I most likely will.

She has an iMac, and we can do screen sharing over iMessage, so that might be helpful sometimes.

Well, it's A-Level choices next if she passes her GCSEs in May & June. We will find out on 24th August what she will be doing as that's results and sign up for 6th form day. SO far she wants to do psychology, art and history.

Half of those terms are unknown to me. We just did tests on the subjects, and if our grade wasn't high enough we had to redo the year. lol
