Thoughts on big social media platform alternatives?

I am seeing more and more pop-up these days giving people more options instead of being stuck with Facebook or Twitter. I don't like either platform myself, I mainly just stick to forums like this one these days. I have joined a few of the newer ones as they have popped up but they don't seem very active.

What are your thoughts on social media platform alternatives?

I think most alternatives don't expand beyond a certain region. For example vk.com is the facebook alternative in Russia but not used outside.

I keep meaning to check out Parler, but I haven't got around to it, sounds similar to Twitter though.

Most of the conversations go through Discord these days. And their alternative is Guilded, and it seems great, but sucks as a platform. it's more confusing and almost nobody is using it.

And while Signal and those sorts of services are there also, I honestly know nobody that uses it. I never end up sharing on them, or talking to people on them.
