Congratulations to the team at XenForo Limited for reaching their next milestone with the stable release of version 1.1 of the forum product XenForo.

"Since the release of XenForo 1.0 in March of this year, we have been working hard to add more functionality to XenForo, in order to deliver a forum system that contains more of those features that we feel, and customers have told us, are necessary to run a successful, state-of-the-art forum. The release of XenForo 1.1 today sees the completion of this round of feature development." XenForo Limited.

Leading up to the Stable release we've had some great discussions and announcements, here's our list:
These threads will also have a more in-depth list of what is new, or at least links to specifics. If you need to learn something just request us for a walkthrough video. We can help you find it, or make one just for you.

What does it mean that 1.1 is now stable?

This is a great question, and many newcomers to online software ask this and I will try my best to explain beta, versus stable releases.

During the development cycle of a product there are new features with options and permissions added. These are working, but untested in the wild. Meaning that bugs might be there that haven't been caught yet, potentially serious ones. Allowing the customers to download a beta they can test the software outside of XenForo.com's environment allowing for a wider range of operating systems, web servers, sites, etc. New conditions might and different usage of the product might disclose these unforeseen bugs. And gives the development team time to process them and improve the stability of the product.

Once the major bugs are sorted, less bugs are reported back, and it is considered 'ready for live web sites', it gets the tag 'stable'.

The importance between the two is that beta releases are usually meant for those who are willing to risk running beta releases on their live sites, or those who want to do test upgrades in private. The stable release is the latest recommended version. Customers can decide to upgrade their live site.

Upgrading XenForo from 1.0 to 1.1 is very easy as almost all the styles and add-ons will work with both versions.

So, backup your site (files and database). Download 1.1 upgrade package, and upload it to the server, overwriting the files already there. Run the /install/ from the browser which will load the upgrade steps. And go through those steps. That's all. IF anything goes wrong, you can revert to the previous version you have as you just made a backup prior to the upgrade.

For a fee, XenFans.com can help you upgrade your site. Optionally the add-ons as well. Feel free to contact us and we can discuss what our team can mean for your site.

If you're finally ready to convert your vBulletin, IPB (IP.Board), phpBB3, MyBB, SMF2, etc board to XenForo 1.1, please do feel free to contact us. Our team members can perhaps help for a fee.

XenFans.com will soon upgrade its live web site. And we hope you will as well.

Please do backup first! And, please do post on our site what you think about version 1.1, how your upgrade process went, or any question you have. We're here to chat with you, help you, and have fun with XenForo.

And yes, all our add-ons are free, available for 1.1.0 stable and above.
