Starship Troopers 2: Hero of the Federation

600full-starship-troopers-2%3A-hero-of-the-federation-poster.jpg

Brainwashed soldiers from Earth armed with crappy rifles versus the giant bugs from Klendathu. Lots of action, plenty of gunfire, blood, ripped body parts and violence in general. Sums up the first part and this sequel perfectly.

I'm not really complaining, though. I like action-packed sci-fi movies. My only complaint would be directed at the Federation army (not to be confused with the United Federation of Planets from Star Trek) and their way of waging war against a superior enemy. I mean, why sending poorly armed infantry to fight giant bugs capable of ripping a Human body apart without so much as breaking a sweat? Haven't they heard of armored vehicles? Tanks? Artillery? They have starships capable of traveling at Warp speed (I'm such a Trek nerd :D), but no combat vehicles? And what's with the crappy rifles? It takes several soldiers focusing their fire on a single bug to kill it. And there are always more bugs than soldiers, which usually results in a massacre of a said soldiers. And the Federation they serve is perfectly happy with that modus operandi, so they just keep training new soldiers and sending them to their deaths. Makes no sense to me.

The Scorpion King

scorpionking.jpg

This is an interesting movie. It acts as a prequel of some sort to The Mummy Returns (which is a sequel to The Mummy - confusing, huh? :p ) and tells a story about Mathayus, an Akkadian mercenary, his rise to power after defeating the evil King Memnon and the origin of his (nick)name, the Scorpion King. It doesn't show how he became the evil half Human - half Scorpion creature which Brendan Fraser fought and defeated in The Mummy Returns, though. That was mentioned at the beginning of The Mummy Returns, but never thoroughly explained and shown. Bummer.

"Get to the choppa!!!" :p What? What else is there to say about this movie? :p

Last movie I saw in general or in theaters?

Theaters- Sucker Punch. Yeah, it's been that long :sigh: Toddlers, man.

At home- umm, Death Race was on TV yesterday while I was sewing a skirt :)

The last pictures my fiancee and I saw were "Mr. Blanding Builds his Dream House" and "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf." Two superb, and opposite, pictures, in my opinion. Cary Grant and Myrna Loy were a perfect on-screen couple, while Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor portrayed a bitter, aging couple.

The last film we saw in the theatre was "The Dark Knight Rises." That was an amazing picture and Bane is now one of my all-time favorite villains.

Last film I saw... The Expendables 2. Kind of on the fence with this one. Being a horror/sci-fi/action junkie, this fits the bill, though I cringe to think of the bullet count throughout the film. They could probably take out an entire country, like, no shit.

For me, the funniest thing about this film was watching all these action stars I grew up loving trot around, pretending they were still young and viable. I swear, I'm almost certain I saw Chuck Norris getting shots of RedBull and Botox in between takes. It was like 'The Golden Girls' meets 'corny-80s-action-star'.

I am ashamed to say that freaking love this movie... Don't judge me dammit!! :D

Disaster Movie

Disaster-Movie-30.jpg

Another parody. Providing the picture above is showing up, you can see some of the stuff this movie makes fun of. Hellboy, Hulk, Iron Man, Batman, Hannah Montana, Kung Fu Panda, Amy Winehouse, Indiana Jones, Sex and the City, etc. Unfortunately, the authors of the movie forgot one thing - humor. Aside from an occasional giggle, this movie failed to amuse me.

In case someone is wondering how can a movie which makes fun of Iron Man, Hellboy and Hulk be such a failure, here's the scene with them in it:

Aside from Hulk losing his pants, I see no humor in it whatsoever.

Unfortunately, it was Magic Mike. I'm female and yeah, the dancing was great, but the ending was just so ridiculous to me. I won't say anything in case anyone hasn't seen it, but the ending was just not what I expected. I'd have much rather saved my time on this movie and just watched a few of the dance clips on YouTube. It wasn't because they were strippers either. Channing Tatum can really dance so it wouldn't have mattered if he was fully clothed or not. It's like watching Michael Jackson dance--he's just so good that it's entertaining.

Breaking Dawn Part 2. I’m not a fan of the Twilight series but a real good friend wanted to watch it and I didn’t have the heart to refuse. It was surprisingly good, if you look at it purely as a love story. The CGI for the baby was a little weird though and I can’t help but get distracted by how wrong the baby looked but, well, I still enjoyed the movie. :D

Total Recall....the new version with Colin Farrell.....and oh...my....god.....it SO did not change my opinion that the man is a douchebag. It sucked!! The special effects were pretty cool, certainly more space aged/ George Jetson like than the old Ah-nold version....but that wasn't enough to save it...not for me.

Last movie I saw was Ferris Bueller's Day Off. I have to say, while the acting was cheesy, the message delivered by this movie was rather inspiring. I laughed at the ridiculousness and unrealism of the movie, but I think it was worth the watch. Matthew Broderick ain't a bad actor and I can't believe I found an 80's girl hot (Sloane Peterson played by Mia Sara). Overall, cool movie if you're looking for a bit of entertainment and nothing too serious and deep.

Journey to the Center of the Earth

406202.1020.A.jpg

An adventure movie based on Jules Verne's Journey to the Center of the Earth novel. And it's a good one, I must say. Unrealistic to the bone, but very entertaining with an elements of sci-fi. It even (unintentionally?) makes a reference to Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom movie with the mine carts ride at one point. Definitely one of the best movies I've seen lately.

I just saw Cloud Atlas. Amazing movie, catering to all audiences. It incorporated a western, comedy, conspiracy, gay themes, unlikely friendships, a futuristic city and a post apocalyptic civilization.

Cloud Atlas seems like an interesting watch. I must keep an eye out for it.

The last flick I caught at the cinema was the Iron Lady almost a year ago now.

I plan to see Life of Pi in the New year. I read the book and found it a good read.

Cloud Atlas is extremely interesting. I love unique movies, and Cloud Atlas is certainly one unique, and has an AWESOME cast (Hugh Grant, Halle Berry, Tom Hanks, need I go on?). In some of their roles you would not even recognize them!

But, be sure you got at least three hours to spare, as the movie is that long and demands your attention the whole time.

PS. I loved the Iron Lady :) .

Cloud Atlas starts here February 13th. I'll have to get along.I noticed Hugo Weaving is in it. A famous Australian actor.

I do, but not always ;) . French movies are usually better than their Hollywood remakes (think Nikita).

Don't get me wrong, I love to watch Hollywood action movies like Judge Dredd or similar too, but they seldom leave a lasting impression. They are good for relaxation though.

I saw Les Miserables just a few days ago and was absolutely blown away. Though I was familiar with the story and the music already, I did not expect to fall so in love with the onscreen version. It came to life for me in an incredible manner, and it touched me very deeply emotionally. (Yeah, okay, I cried.) I'll be honest and say I didn't think Anne Hathaway was going to be able to pull it off, but she killed it. She deserves an Oscar nomination for this one, for sure.

The last movie I saw was The Hobbit. I'm a huge fan of The Lord of the Rings (both the movies and the books), so The Hobbit was a "must see" for me. I enjoyed it, though I'm wondering how they're going to stretch it out over two more movies. I also didn't find it quite as good as LoTR, but it's the same with the books. The Hobbit is more of a simple, fun, adventure story, while LoTR is the original definition of "epic."

I have to say that Martin Freeman is the perfect Bilbo, and I can understand why Peter Jackson was so determined to cast him in the role.
